How Long For Shipping After Truck Is Built?

We ordered a new 2011 GMC 2500 HD CC 4x4 SLT back in Dec, got a build week of Jan 10th, got the VIN, but dealer says truck has still not shipped. VIN shows it being built in Flint, we are in Eastern Washington.

 

How long does shipping usually take? do they wait until they have a bunch going the same direction? Does the system the dealer use to check on things get updated in timely fashion? (could it be that it shipped but the system not updated?)...

 

I already have my PowerSteps and even got the promo bed step. We are anxious to get truck (but sad we are trading in our 2008 Yukon XL Denali).

It obviously varies based on where your located and how it's shipped. The dealership is able to tell you exactly where it's at, but may require the sales managers inquire. Don't let them feed you a line, they do have the ability to know exactly where it's at.

 

For me, it took a total of 6 weeks to take delivery from the day of the order.

The dealer indicates that it has not shipped yet (according to the system). They have a call scheduled with the factory on Thursday to find out why it has not shipped.

I agree with Stevens11 on probably waiting for more orders to be built for shipping reasons. My father in-law ordered a 2011 ext cab 1500 on Oct 1st, truck was built Nov 1st and didn't show up at the dealer until Nov 22nd.

I think I got that step (I have not opened it yet). It is the promotion step from PowerStep when buying the PowerStep.

 

BTW, the PowerStep was the deal closer for the new truck. My wife has a bad knee and could not get into the truck without much pain, but this step will solve that (the factory running boards don't help much, they are still too high).

I would imagine they are shipping them to your erea by train. So they most likely need to fill the train before shipping. But that's just a guess.

Typically it will be loaded on a train in 2 to 5 days after it has been built. It really depends on how many other cars or trucks are heading your way and once they have a full railcar built on paper they will pull a railcar in and load it up. Then it could take a week + to make it out west depending on how many rail car transfers (to other RR lines serving your area), RR car sit some more waiting to be picked up. Then is gets unloaded at a rail head and can sit there till the trucking company has a full load going in the direction of the selling dealer. Shipping can take 2 weeks or up to 4 weeks.

 

If the vehicle has not shipped it could be that it was pulled for quality control or bayed (held) waiting some repair, be it some parts that were deemed faulty etc. Of course you are depending on the dealer to be giving you accurate info and he could tell you today it has not shipped and it could be on his lot tomorrow.

This is Larry from Chevroletconnects. Thanks to google alerts I knew where to come and offer help or answer any questions. Basically, since this forum is for both GMC and Chevrolet trucks I feel it is important to explain a few differences in our service to avoid confusion. Chevrolet sold retail orders update automatically every 2 hours 24 hours a day 7 days a week. After you register, you will get your first update in about 2 hours tops.Your order is tracked from the moment your car is ordered Status 1100, all the way until it is delivered and your paperwork is complete. GMC updates are done manually, and will be updated usually the next business day. We can manually track GMC trucks from order 1100 to built and vin issued at 3800. No Logistics data is available from GM to us at the present time. (but we are working on it).

 

We also can help provide assistance in tracking your trucks on the railroads (CSX and UP) all the way to the local distribution center yards. And if you are lucky enough to be in a service area that AAG or Cassens trucking does your delivery to your dealer, we can also provide their tracking automatically right on your status updates.
