Over Active Volt Meter

After driving an hour or so the volt meter drops from the normal above the 14 volt mark to below the 1 on on the 14. Using my analog meter it looks like 12 volts. Is this normal? Shutting the truck off and restarting it returns to above 14.

Normal. Should be something about it in your owners manual.

when a battery is full it does not need to be overcharged ,

 

your truck has a module for the charging system ,and knows what its doing.

 

see your service manager for more detailed "description and operation" of your charging system

As stated, that's normal operation on your truck

Thanks! The owners manual states the voltage can change, but it looks like a lot!! It also says in the tow haul mode the voltage will increase, but I can't notice that. This weekend was the first trip out and it didn't drop till we had driven 2 or 3 hours.
