Tailgate Sealing?

Wondering if anyone has ever sealed their tailgate with any type of weather stripping or anything? I know there are some products out there for this purpose, but I'm wondering if anyone has used any of them and had good luck?

I've used the truxedo truxseal, and it didn't work very well at all.

I have a spray liner, and it just didn't seam to fit.

Ive installed a bunch of different types. Most work very well. But remember nothing is going to be a complete 100% seal

Just curious as to what the purpose of this would be? I know if you have a tonneau, you may want to keep it 100% dry...but whats the benefit with a open box?

I had a tonneau on my 2004. I used a tailgate seal kit I bought on ebay; I don't remember the brand name, but it was similar to the Truxedo product mentioned earlier. It did keep 90%+ of the water out. If I were in a downpour there would be a few drips near the tailgate, but the biggest plus was that it kept dust from getting into the box. I didn't and don't do dirt road driving, but with a tonneau there was a vacuum and dust and dirt seemed to suck in around the tailgate seam. This really helped with that. That truck also had a Linex, but the seal kit fit on the box where it wasn't sprayed.

My biggest concern was dirt and grime getting caught up around it and becoming a rust hazzard, so you might want to wash clean around it regularly.

Good luck

I bought an Xtang tonneau cover shortly after getting my 2010 WT a year ago. It came with a weather seal and it worked well at first but during the summer the glue got soft and the weatherstrip wouldn't stay put. I eventually took it all off. The bed still stays dry enough for what I carry (golf clubs, lol). Some dust gets past into the bed but it doens't bother me.

I've used 2 or 3 types over the years. They don't last very long, and are generally a waste of money.

It's truck, after all, and when you use a truck it gets some dirt in the bed.

Bedrugs come with the tailgate piece rigidly attached to the bed floor piece. This way there is no gap on the bottom. Most of the dust gets into the bed thourgh the bottom gap.

I've had the Agricover bedseal kit in my 08 for about a 1 1/2 yrs now. It's stuck good and seals totally. When I had the topper off, it would hold water perfectly in the bed (I sealed the drain holes up too). It looks like it's going to last a couple years, maybe more before needing replacement. But it has been one of the better things I've bought for under $50. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the input guys! I do a lot of camping and the gear sits in there, so I was looking to make sure it stays dry and maybe minimize the dust too for when I'm camping off the beaten path.

I understand that. But I live in the mountains, and when I open my canopy to grab my stuff and its covered in snow that has been sucked in through the tailgate, it's not a good time.

Where do you do most of your camping? I use the black plastic totes from walmart to keep my camping gear clean. Water resistant and can be doubled as a table since they are stackable.
