6x9's In A 2001 Silverado?

I just changed out my blown front 6.5 factory speakers with a pair if Infinity speakers. They sound great, but the crisp clear mid and high range sound needs more bass than is capable from a 6.5 speaker. Is there any way I can get 6x9s in a 2001 Silverado EXT cab? I think the rear speakers are 4x6 which are still factory, but when I fade them off, you almost can't even tell they are there.

On my '01 I replaced the rear 4x6 plates with 6.5s. Only took minor cutting on the door. Subs under the rear seats and 6x9s in front of the seats on each side. I didn't carry many front seat passengers and rarely had enough people for the back seats so it didn't bother me any. I always toyed with the idea of going to the junk yard and picking up a set of door panels for the extended doors and cutting out a hole for 6x9s. Just never did it. If you do switch to 6x9s you might want to look into getting an amp though. Should make the 6.5s in front and the 6x9s in back sound better.

YEah I think my next step will be an aftermarket HU. I'm wondering if I could fit a small sub-woofer under the back seat... anyone done this?

I'm not a big fan of 6X9's. You can get some good bass from a set of 8's and they will sound way cleaner then 6X9's. However here is a set-up we did to fit two 6x9's in the rear and then 6's and 4's in the front doors. Also fitting subs under the rear seat is no problem there are all different types of pre-fab boxes you can buy online for different sized subs. You will probably want a single ten inch sub for some nice clean bass, nothing over the top, but I have built boxes to fit two fifteens under the rear seat. You can mount the amps on the back wall behind the rear seats. If you are getting an aftermarket hu I would go ahead and amplify all your speakers well your at, it it will sound so much better then what the hu can put out. However if you stick with the factory hu you will need to pick up a high to low level converter. Hope this helps.post-58331-1297584257_thumb.jpgpost-58331-1297584264_thumb.jpg
