Looks pretty interesting. I find it most interesting that the torque curve looks virtually identical to that of the GM truck engines when they are actually put on the dyno. It actually looks like it would make the same basic power as what the 6.0l GM engine makes stock with a very similar looking curve.

Its not as strong as the 6.0 Gm engine but its darn impressive for its size.

pretty decent review, and a decent engine. I still think I'd like seeing a reliable 3.6L v6 outta the camero twin turbo'd and thrown under the hood of silverados with a 6spd behind it in auto or manual configuration.

Well that depends. Most information I can find shows the VortecMax 6.0 making about 20 lb-ft more torque but about 5-10 less RWHP compared to the dyno they show. I think that is pretty even.

Thats because its a DOHC Engine. I wonder how it would sound with Dual Exaust... :dunno:

it's impressive. what they want for the trucks is not though. I wanted an F-150 but I saved 3 grand and got more features for my money. point to GM!

Too bad the new powertrains can fix ugly...

I'll assume you mean can't.

Like I've said before I've been cross-shopping both brands and though I'm not crazy about how an extended cab F-150 looks, I do love the reg. cab shortbed F150s, enough so that I've really been thinking about if I need the back seat or not. The Ford still has a lot of space behind the seats in a reg. cab and combine that with being able to get the 5.0 with 3.73 gears (and that selectable locker I'd like) and you likely end up with a real quick truck.

Ditto, except in my case I was looking at the 2010 F150 with the boat anchor 5.4. Still wanted more money than my 11 Chevy with more equipment. Besides I got what I wanted. I just don't know if I actually could have gone down that Ford road.

While the ford 5.4 got a lot of bad rep it was every bit as strong as the 5.3 Chevy. It got kicked around a lot because it was the biggest thing Ford had to offer which was a mistake. They know this and have taken steps to rectify it. Im not a fan of the 5.4 but it will get the job done and they last. The only downside I know of is that some models shot plugs out and there is no excuse for this.

There is a hell of a debate going on with the Ford faithful about which is better. The 5 liter or the 5.4. Its just my opinion but there is no comparison. The new 5 liter is way way ahead in every way over the old 5.4 and I think the 5 liter will hold up over time as well if not better. LIke it or not ford has a winner here. I wish it got better gas mileage but they have a major improvment imo over the 5.4. Good job Ford and I hope Chevrolet will be better with the gen 5 small blocks.

Competition is good for everybody especially the consumer which is us. Ford has the upper hand right now. There is no disputing their new engines top to bottom. They have everything covered. Gm needs to get off their ass and go to work. Ford has just raised the bar. This will only be good for all of us down the road.

Shows you how stupid Ford fans can be. While the 5L is really nothing special, ANYTHING beats the 310HP 5.4. It was a unrefined, anemic boat anchor. One thing the 5L has going for it is it looks good on paper.
