How Much Oil Will I Lose?

Recommended Posts

So I am thinkin of changing this cheapo oil filter that was put on when I had my oil changed(I won't mention where) since they did not use the AC Delco one that I told them to use, that was on my front seat. How much oil will I lose when I do this, and anything to watch out for? This will be the first time doing this on this truck for me.

My guess is around a pint (whatever the small filter holds + a little extra that drains while you're changing filters). I think you could easily bring it back to the full mark with less than a quart.

Maybe I shouldn't call it a cheapo, as I'm not 100% it is. All I know is that I told the place to put in my AC Delco one that I had placed on my front seat and they didn't. They used a Prime Guard filter. This is the second time that this large chain has done me wrong. The first time was when they didn't correctly install all the lug nuts on my wife's Jeep after rotating tires and by the time I got home, there were on 2 left. I made them come to my house and fix it and then they provide me some free services. That should have been the last time I dealt with them, but as I was very happy with the customer service I continued to give them my money. NO MORE!!! Now my truck will either go to Chevy or I'll do it myself. My Oil Filter has been changed!!!
