Getting Flashed

I keep getting flashed by on coming traffic with my Low beams on. I have had the headlights adjusted twice now by two different places and they actually have them set lower than whats required. Stock truck, stock light bulbs, stock tires, no lifts, bars are not cranked up, nothing in the bed. If I tow or put 500lbs in the bed even the truck drivers start flashing me!

Anyone else have this problem? Is it just the design of the lights with the low beams on top that causing it or?

Its getting anoying and dangerous, two idiots this week have darted into my lane with high beams on to express there opinion (and stupidity).

My god some people are stupid, dart into your lane to flash you??? People like that deserve a darwin award.

In all seriousness...if that is happening then you most likely do have a headlight issue and it is in your best interest to get it checked by someone qualified, and soon.

Steer clear of the idiots and do let us know what you find please.

If your rear springs sag too much with that 500 lb load, then it would explain why your lights are annoying to oncoming traffic. Try aiming the lights with that load in the back.

Had same problem with previous truck (Sonoma). For 2 1/2 years I had people that would slow down to get behind me then "express" their opinion with their brights the whole way to work (45 miles one way). I also took my truck in twice to have checked out & never found a problem (dealer & trusted shop.) Same situation, factory set up of truck & parts (no lifts, cranks, tires, alternate bulbs) & this was in a small truck. I even went as far as to find a "duller" bulb to replace the factory recommended ones, never did since that would only put my family in danger while riding at night. So I would just either flash or finger back & carry on. I also would have people jump into my lane to "remind" me to turn down my lights. I took the ditch a time or two thanks me caring more about my life (& family) than they obviously did theirs, yes stupid drivers will cut it that close...

the guys with the super bright blue lights, thats another story!

I do find it hard to believe 2 different people drove into oncoming traffic to "express thier opinion."

Yes BlackZ71 your right mostly cars unless towing, which is usually on the weekends and then its everyone.

The idoits that dart over are always cars while on back country roads, they flash, I ignore, they flash again, sometimes I ignore or I flash back a very quick blip, they go on full high beam and dart! The last boozo almost clipped the rear fender of my dump bed trailer which is about 4" wider than my truck and I dont think they knew it was back there (its black). Who knows what they are thinking.. Maybe folks in Oregon need to eat more carrots or something.

I followed my wife home the other night, she's drives a little SUV and said they were not too bright but did look like they go brighter when I hit bumps, which she said kinda look like your flashing the lights. Truck was empty.

As anyone adjusted for towing, then back to empty and back towing etc? Would that wear out the adjuster? I have had the pro's do the adjusting so I havent even looked at the system yet, but willing to take the trailer with me and have them tell me how many turns with load and then how many back witout. Safe is better than sorry.

While I dont have this problem, I do have a friend with a truck that has "bright lights" too. I can tell its him coming as soon as I see his lights. I don't know that I've ever seen low beams that bright. The first time I saw it was in my driveway. I flashed to le thim know his brights were on and then he flashed his real brights. He said he gets the same reactions the origianal poster gets

I hate those blue bright lights! Usually on Mercedes and BMWs. I always flash those guys. And they are always real quick to flash back which tells me they get flashed alot. It's annoying to see that intense of a light and selfish for one person to improve their vision at someone elses expense.

But I regress, to the OP I would take it to a third mechanic. You could also measure the voltage at the socket too and make sure it is spec.

Something I've seen occasionally is a bulb that's not seated correctly in the lamp. Most of the light will be put out in the normal focal area that's correctly aimed, but since the bulb isn't positioned exactly where the reflectors are designed for it to be there will be a glare where some of the light is outside of that focal area. You won't have as clean of a "cutoff" because of this, and that could lead to some glare blinding other drivers. I think this might get overlooked sometimes when the headlights are aimed since most of the light is in the focal area and the headlight looks to be aimed correctly. Might check that out.

i've noticed some of the newer trucks seem to have brighter low beam bulbs, as it dosen't bother me too much as i ride about the same height as them..hids though piss me off, specially the ones that aren't done right and give the appearance of a ufo flying by...
