Slaughtered a mid to late 80's hatch mustang 5.0

I've run into him before going south on 59, when I unleashed a third gear romp on him badly!

Well last week, I'm on my way home from working out.  I'm on Rayomnd Dr. sitting at the intersection with Diehl road in the left lane.  I'm the only one there.  Traffic coming from behind is now coming over the hill down to the light.  This car that is in the left hand lan then does one of my BIGGEST pet peeves....Moves from the left lane behind me into the right hand lane.  (This act of aggression by them results in an immediate a$$kicking!)

As he gets closer, by the headlights, I see that it's a mustang This has me jumping up and down in my seat with excitement!  He pulls next to me and pulls just enough forward to be into the cross walk lanes.  You know, the one upsmanship thing.

So as I impatiently wait for the light to go yellow on Diehl, I start bringing my RPM's up ever so slightly.  By the time the light goes yellow in the other direction, I have it up to about 1,500rpm (just enough to give a good launch but not blow the tires off).  Light goes green, I dump the clutch, run to 6,000 in 1st, 6,000 in 2nd, and about 5,000 in third.  By this time, I could've parked a mile long freight locomotive between the two of us.  :jester:   I put a good 10 cars on him at least.

Well, Raymond drive ends at Warrenville rd (another stoplight).  You either have to turn left or right and I have to go left.  So I pull up to the light in the left turn lane and he comes in behind me.

I wait impatiently again for the light to go yellow in the other direction to prepare myself for flight.  Light goes green for us, I have to pu$$yfoot it around the corner and he's right on my a$$.  So I give it a little and the back end kicks out (one can never have tooo much power!).  He points his car to the left lane, I'm going into the right.  Once I got the car straightened out enough, I buried the loud pedal to the carpet and went through all 4 power gears up to 6,500rpm.  Needless to say, he needed to get a map out to find which zip code I was in I pulled away so hard!  :)

But here's the good part.....Midway through 4th...I HAD A CALF CRAMP in my right foot from pushing soo hard on the pedal.  :flag:  I could feel it coming but kept it buried up till 110 or so mph.  When I figured I had sufficiently disciplined my foe I had to let off cause of the pain.  Slammed the brakes on hard and pulled into the entrance to a warehouse parking lot, (this is when he finally went by me to give you an idea of how hard I walked him)!    So I sat in that entrance for a couple of minutes stretching my leg just to get it to work again.

Sweet.... Got any E.T. slips???

My next buy (as soon as I catch up on my truck) is gonna be something like an '01 or '02 F-body... My friend Jason in Artesia has one of the fastest stock internal Z28s in the SW...Its a 2001 w/ Borla Cat-back, SLP headers, Lid, Free mods... Ran a 12.5@??? in Roswell (3600ft) on drag radials... Not too shabby... He had it dynoed in Albuquerque before the headers and it put down 346hp and 387lbft... Its a built on a wednesday freak of a car...

Last time slip that I publicly posted (as I am on several boards) was about two years ago and was 12.2 @ 116mph.

Let's just say I can sandbag it down the track at 12.2 now.

I'll be re-dyno'ing (weather permitting) at FLP on 10/26.  I should be over the 400rwhp mark (crossing fingers).

You sound like a friend of mine with a heads/cam LS1 car, Michael Harper.(Mike's Page)

Man those are some awesome motors (424 rwhp,407 rwtq).

You haven't had to change your rear yet?

I'd love to have that 424 number!!  ####!  But I did go with a slightly conservative cam in order to make sure I passed emissions.  I went with 116 degree lobe centerlines instead of the more common 112 degree that is norm with today's cammed LS1's.

Nothing really confidential about it.  Bottom end was balanced and blueprinted, put ARP connecting rod bolts in per the advice of John Lingenfelter, then the heads and cam, Grotoyhann headers, Grotoyhann Y-pipe with Random Tech cats, then through an ATR cat-back.  Intake side is the LS1 motorsports lid, stock MAF, stock TB, LS6 intake which EGR plumbed in (which I just recently installed), MSD 8.5mm wires, NGK TR6 plugs, Steve Cole/TTS PCM programming, stock fuel injectors, SPEC stage 3 Kevlar/Carbon fiber mix clutch with 2,400lb springs (I think they're 2,400lb anyway) on pressure plate, LS6/ZO6 master cylinder with tube porting mod (actually this is SPEC clutch #2 as I've already grenaded one) and 160 degree thermostat.

No, I have not grenaded the rear end yet, but that's partially due to the Richmond 3.73's that I have in their (Richmond's are a tougher gear than GM Motive) and the fact that I set it up pretty tight.  It's held up surprisingly well considering my 3,500rpm launches.    But I think that may have more to do with my clutch being the weakest link.  It'll pop before the rear does.

Mike has broken 2 12-bolts and wrung off an aluminum drive shaft.

What "meats" are ya runnin?  He runs slicks at the track.

We now have an AWESOME shop in NC that can help with almost anything.

On the strip I run BFG drag radials.  On the street I simply run Eagle GS-C's.

I don't run anything stickier than drag radials cause I'm still running the stock "made of glass" 10 bolt.  A tire any stickier than a drag radial will snap it like a twig with that kind of power.

When I get the money saved back up, I'll be installing a Moser 9" and get two sets of gears.  A 3.73 that I can use for street use, then a set of 4.10's that I can quickly swap out for the track and then back to 3.73's for street again.  Then can run a REAL tire underneath it.

But even with the stock rear, I still cut 1.9 sec 60ft times with the 6 speed which ain't too shabby.

Mustangs seem to be the diet of Camaros around here as well...there are a few that you have to worry about but for the most part Mustangs are a no fear issue here...

I have a theory on this...the guys here that have them just to say I have a mustang not the reason Ford builds them for, just to run like a mustang should...
