Help With Factory Stereo Equipment

I have an 07 silverado classic 1500 lt1 so basically the same as an 06, i need to install aftermarket speakers in the front and i dont want to install an amp or new head unit, i have seen some people talk about their head units having an amp built in to it. did these radio's have an amp built in to it and what is there output wattage for there radio's the speakers i have found are 85 watt rms and i want to make sure they will sound good. oh and i do not have the bose sound system

The factory head unit does have a built in amp, I dont know for what the wattages is, they never advertise them but most stock head units are in the 10 to 15 watts per channel. To measure it accurately you need some expensive equipment but you can kind of estimate it by hooking a volt meter to the speaker leads while the stereo is one and them multiply volts by volts and divide by speaker impedance equals watts, so say if it was 5volt reading and 4ohm speaker you do (5x5)/4= 6.25 watts.

 

Speakers rated at 85w rms will likely not be powered enough to sound their best from the factory head unit, you will find they are weak on bass. JL Audio Evolution TR speakers are usually a good match for stock head units as they perform well at low wattages.
