Snapped Antenna

Recommended Posts

08 Silverado. Went to remove my antenna before going through the car wash today and ended up snapping it off. Unfortunately there are no threads left on the base to screw a new one in. Has anyone installed a new base before. Are there any other options I can seek instead of installing a new base. Thanks in advance.

Ever been to a drive through car wash ???? First time I went through I though for shore it was going to snap off. The even recommend removing you antenna before entering.

you'll have to pull the radio, unplug the antenna wire possibly drop the glove box door and fish it through.

edit:

another option is to use an aftermarket hidden antenna solution, the only trick is you need an adapter to get to the GM miniplug, this adapter is not common (the opposite is common). a hidden antenna could be placed under the dash or head liner.

I go through drive through car washes all winter long, but, I use touchless car washes, no need to take anything off.

Any suggestions on pulling the radio. I don't even know were to begin.

I've pulled one from the SLT dash, but not a "true truck" style, which do you have?

LT (SLE) What do the high end Yukon's and Tahoes use for an antenna system. They obviously dont have an exposed antenna. I'm also considering JB welding it.

If the base is still usable you could drill it larger, run a helicoil tap into, and install a helicoil which would restore the threads back to original. Of course you'd need to know the thread pitch/size and the helicoil kit to install it. Might be too much work, but that's what I'd do. Of course I have access to kit's like that. You don't happen to know a machinist do you???

Big Blue, what kind of antenna is that your using? Does it work with stock base? BTW, my wifes old 2001 yukon had the antenna snapped off in a drive-thru car wash.

Never mind all the mumbo jumbo I just typed up...I saw a 1998 truck in your profile, and assumed you were referring to a 98 model, and completely missed the 08 Silverado in your original post.
