Temp/compass Issue In Rearview Mirror

Hey All,

 

I have a 2003 2500HD with the temp/comp display in the rearview mirror. Most of the time now it goes very dim and is really hard to read. Sometimes it is nice and bright like it should be... (and no the problem isnt just because my head lights are on)

 

I checked all the fuses and everything seems ok there, does it mean that the display is slowly dying or is there something I am missing?

 

Finally, should mine be an auto dimming mirror as well or are there dimming and non dimming temp/compass mirrors?

Check the power and ground to the mirror when it is acting up. If you have full 12 volts and good ground the issue is inside the mirror.

And is the best way to do that to pull the plug out of the mirror and check it that way?

 

Anyone have a plug wiring diagram?

Looks like it is a 16 way connector

 

Terminal 8 is ground- black wire

terminal 12 is ign 1 voltage - yellow wire

I am having the same issue with my 04 z71 except mine is only when it is either snowing or raining. I have yet to try to test the plug, but Im thinking it has something to do with the temp sensor on the radiator support but Im not sure. It also doesnt Dim or change LED color ever. Please Help.
