A flush typically uses a machine and may (but not always) uses some type of chemical to clean the trans.

The preferred method is to flush/changeout all the fluid (either by machine or manually), but without using any solvents. A complete fluid flush with clean fresh atf is typically best. Using synthetic atf is best if you can afford it.

The filter does not need to be changed so early.

Dumping the pan only removes a percentage of the atf so it's not a complete fluid changeout.

Hope this helps.

When I had my 2000 6.0, I carried a 3000# plus camper. It had a drain plug that would drain 3 qts. Once a year I drained and refilled with Mobil 1 syn. fluid. At 25 and 50k I dropped the pan and changed filters. I traded the truck at 82k and all was fine with the trans.

The filter change at 50k was the last one I intended to do no matter how long I kept the truck. I intended to keep draining the pan yearly with a clean pan and inspecting the fluid for metal. I figured after two filters if the fluid was clean, so was the filter.
