Time For A Sound Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Well, I just had my stock speakers replaced under warranty. That was 2 weeks ago, and the new ones are already blown. I really don't listen to my music that loud, but maybe I am deaf. Anyway, I like my stock deck. My warranty is now up and before I dive into the performance aspect of the truck, I want some decent sound. My plan is to just replace the door speakers, and maybe the pillar tweeters. I have looked around and found ALL kinds of speakers. I really don't know which ones to chose that will benefit me most for this application. I found that I can get some adapters and run 6 1/2's. Now, which speakers do you guys prefer? Cost really isn't a factor, but don't want to spend a crap load on just door speakers either. I would also prefer to not have to run an amp. Just want to keep it simple, but add slightly better sounds with some speakers that I wont blow in a weeks time.

Thanks in advance!!

What kind of sound are you looking for? Clear or more bass?

Guess I left that out. I like a clear sound, but a slight increase in bass would be nice as well.

Your best bet if you plan to keep the factory head unit and want clear sound are JL Audio TR650-CXi in the doors and use foam baffles behind them and then replace the tweeters with Rockford Fosgate P1T-S set at -4 db, that combo will sound good and run you about $300. If you want a bit more sound quality but would be pushing the limits of what the factory head unit can power you could look at JL Audio C2-650x speakers with foam baffles and replace the tweeters with Rockford Fosgate T1T-S which would run you about $400.

Thanks for the quick and helpful response. I will check those out.

Checked them out. Seems they are 6 3/4. The adapters say up to a 6 1/2. Will they still work? Crutchfield seems to think so but just want to be certain.

Yes they will, they are slightly oversized 6.5 but the adapters fit up to 6.75

I also made a post of when I installed those tweeters to my truck, pretty simple http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=128500

Cool, thanks again TJ. Actually saw your post prior to making mine. Good stuff. I will def use it as a reference when I do mine. Not looking forward to it though, haha. I hate taking all of the panels off of the doors. Had to do it when I installed my mirrors. Oh well, round 2 should be easier.
