Traceability Number On Cylinder Head

Hello everyone, glad to be here.

I'm having trouble locating some info.

Have a VIN no. given with the sale of an engine,.. great, prove it is associated with that VIN.

Got a "GMVIS" vehicle summary printed out at a friendly dealer, but a number found on the cylinder head that looks close to the traceability number is not matching entirely.

the only dot matrix nuumber on the block by the oil filter does not match anything.

derivative VIN sticker / stamping, on smooth pad behind driver side cylinder head is missing

Block date code is D083 -- April 8th 2003, ( Romulus engine )

scan date of engine assembly in Mexico plant is May 6th 2003.

1) is the engine traceability number put on the cylinder head?

2) is the block casting date close enough to the assembly plant scan to believe?

3) does it sound like I'm going about this right?

Thanks for your help
