Remote Start Questions (adding)

I had the factory remote start on both my 2007 Impala and current sierra. I just had the normal remote and the range was so poor tha tI had to be within 20 yards of the thing to get it to reliably start. By then its almost not worth it.

I never heard this complaint before now about the lack range on the OEM remote start. Has anyone else with the OEM remote start option had similar range problems? If that's the case I won't waste my money on the OEM version.

the range on my oem remote start sucks big time. Enough to the point where i'm considering going with an aftermarket unit just so i can use it.

I added it to my 2011 Silverado. The dealer charged me $85 saying that it does take almost an hour to flash the computer. I am sorry how do you charge someone that when they bought a $40,000 (Sticker not actual price paid) truck and a traverse the week prior. I think it is BS but oh well its installed and love it. My OnStar app for my phone finally updated and now I can remote start the truck from anywhere.

So, you bought a 40k truck and had them install something that wasn't optioned when the truck was originally ordered and wonder why they charged you?

You have to pay for services rendered. Its not free, and unless you struck up a deal with the Sales Dept. to have them foot the bill, then you are responsible for any and all accessories installed.

I just spent over $200 bux at the grocery store in the last 2 days. That means I should get some free food on my next visit. icon_smile_screwy.gif

I think long as you have one of them you will be ok. The dealer will have to program the remote start.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my 2011 GMC, approximately how much does the dealer charge to do the programming step? Thanks.

Aftermarket ftw. Compustar pro was about $300 installed, and has a huge range. Never had an issue with it.
