Transmission Problem - Speedo Reads Zero 07 Nbs

here is the issue i am having with my 07 crew nbs 5.3 4x4. will be driving along truck is warm. stop at a red light or stop sign. truck starts will shift to second and then it feels like the tranny is slipping and won't shift up anymore. the speedo will read zero all the while this is happening. can only go about 25 mph. pull over stop shift to park then back to drive and it's fine. it has started to happen 2 or 3 times a week now and it seems that if i manually shift it will gear down back to one then up to two but no further. anyone have any experience with these symptoms.

I also have the dreaded bump at a stop from time to time but not sure if it might be releted or not.

taking it in this week and the service guy figured maybe the speed sensor but that is new territory for me so just trying to get some context. any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Hey man, Ive had that happen to me once, just this past week, but at the next stop sign everything went back to normal.. I was actually just checking on this for anyone else who had had this problem.. So if your service guy finds anything please post on what he found. Thanks man

goes in tomorrow morning. here's hoping i can fill you in tomorrow night. just hope it isn't one of those "couldn't reproduce" deals and it at least throws a code or something.

cheers.

Yeah so don't have the full details yet but one of the highlights includes needing to wait for a new transfer case from the U.S. Apparently the tech took it out and drove and drove, just about to give up and it did it, thank god! Something about it slipping into 4x4, a bad ring etc. I am picking up a loaner on Saturday so might be able to get the full scoop then. None the less covered by the drivetrain warranty. Will update when i have the full details.

oh damn, mines definatly doing the same thing, and I got the code C0321 after reading the post and replying i checked it and it says that it is the "Transfer Case Lock Circuit Malfunction"... unfortunatly I bought my truck used and my warranty happened to just run out not to to long ago.. so when you get more details that would be awesome.. Either way, sounds like an expensive fix. Thanks man

How many miles do you have on the truck? Remember that the truck should have the 5 year, 100K mile warranty. Only thing that would void the warranty would be a salvage title.

5yr/160,000km for us canadians ;)

Regardless if you bought it used you should be covered

New tranfser case and yes it is for sure covered under the drivetrain warranty. My dealer gave a rental to-boot. Once it's fixed and I get it back i'll post the details that they put on the work order.

here is the detail from the tech.

cause:

"scanned vehicle for codes and found c0387 unable to shift. shifting t-case into 4 low and the t-case would not come out of gear. removed encoder motor and manual shift t-case and found output shaft snap ring was broken and bearing has moved causing unable to shift and holding t-case in 4 low. rec replacing bearing and snap ring to fix customers concern."

correction:

"removed and disassembled t-case. replaced output shaft bearing and snap ring and drain t-case fluid. removed all broken pieces of snap ring from t-case and reassembled. installed t-case back into vehicle and topped up with new fluid.

all tolled about 2 weeks time but satisfied.

Folks I'm having the same issues and my dealer can't re-produce it so they won't fix it. I've had it in several times.

Does anyone have any additional info. I may be able to give them to help them along?

-Who was the dealer that fixed it, do you mind providing the work order #? - My truck has been doing this since end of DEC last year but it's so intermittant the dealer can't put his finger on it. It doesn't throw a code...

- or even if you could scan or write up the details of the work order that would be amazing.

-- On ocassion when I put mine into reverse something starts griding really bad. It's as intermittant as the other problem but now I get nervous every time I shift into R.

Thanks in advance for your help.

PIP4429B: Grind, Growl, or Transfer Case Disengagement Possible ABS DTC C0055 - keywords inoperative noise vss - (Feb 4, 2009)

Grind, Growl or Transfer Case Disengagement Possible ABS DTC C0055

2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe

2007-2008 GMC Sierra

2008 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL

Equipped With Magna Transfer Case RPO NQH

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the transfer case in the above listed vehicles grinds, growls or disengages. Vehicle will not pull under load. Other comments may be that the transfer case will disengage upon torque reversal i.e. shifting from reverse to drive. Customers may experience unwanted ABS activation during a stop or a ABS lamp on and technician's may find dtc C0055.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The above concerns may be caused by the transfer case rear output shaft rear bearing retainer (snap) ring breaking. Reference item 27 in SI document 1824278. If the retaining ring is broken it can cause movement of the output shaft and possibly cause the transfer case to disengage. Replace the retaining ring and inspect the rear main/output shaft for any concerns. Also inspect the shift forks and all other transfer case components and repair or replace in the most cost effective way.

Vehicles built after 4/1/08 will have been built with a snap ring that is hardened to a different specification and should not exhibit this concern.

New member here and this is my first post.

I want to personally thank ChevyTec77

A month ago I bought a 2007 extended cab Silverado 4x4 and experienced the exact condition described in the above PIP. The first incidence of it coming out of gear and grinding was a month ago but then all was well...until yesterday. The problem occurs as described above as "torque reversal". when backing into my driveway that has a hump by the sidewalk that extends the drive shaft out..

With the above information I called the selling dealer he said bring it in and we'll "take a look at it". That's not what I wanted, I wanted it fixed before things got worse and cost is not a big concern. Armed with a print out I went to a nearby GMC dealer , described my problem and told the service writer I think this needs done. He didn't argue, ran my vin and went to his service and parts men and they have the clip in stock and the mechanic had done them before and said my description fit the problem. I have an appointment for next Tuesday, the cost will be upwards to $700 if no further problems are found.

    • Getting greedy...   The AC pump has been replaced at least once per service records, and it's been recharged twice since 2018 or so, in approximately 2 year intervals between those charges.   It was done at the same shop...clearly they were enjoying the revenue of recharging the system periodically versus actually tracking down and fixing the leak. I learned that the owner was 88 years old when she passed in 2023, so maybe they assumed only a temporary fix was needed anyway.   The system is basically empty now, the compressor spins freely, so I'm guessing it "just needs a recharge".   I vacuumed it down, and it has basically held overnight. Doesn't appear to leak under vacuum, check! So it must leak under pressure. I don't have a way to pressurize the system and pressurizing it with shop air wouldn't be great for the air dryer (which is probably toast anyway?)   The dryer (accumulator? I'm not an AC expert) has a Schrader valve, but the high side has an old ball-type valve, which are notorious for leaking. It's clearly had schmutz blown out of it at one point because the line/area next to the valve is coated old black crud, which I assume is AC refrigerant residue/oil, or maybe even dirty dye. I think I'll roll the dice and replace the valves. I have a black light around here somewhere so I'll find it and shine it around the engine bay in the dark to see if there's any dye.   I can't think of another way to track down the leak other than injecting some dye (if it doesn't have any) and having it charged up. We can't buy R134a off the shelf here anymore, so I'll run it up to Jiffy Lube and have them do it. I think I have a coupon. At the very least, the charge should last long enough for a year or two, according to history. I think this truck will be long gone by then. But cold AC is a selling point.
    • Got the truck back today.  Called them yesterday to get an update, and miraculously my truck is finished?!?! The $13k out the door was complete bullshit!  Ended up being over $14k.  They added some bullshit service bulletin that I cant even find, where they replaced my radiator without telling me or asking me, and charging me for it.  Need to do more research into it, cause they leaked the first delivered radiator was ran over by FedEX.  Sounds like bullshit to me. 2.5 Months for an engine swap, which ended up being remanufactured, not new; ****ing ridiculous.  Brakes are squishy as hell, not sure if its from sitting.  Will give a couple days to see it that figures it self out.  GAVE IT BACK TO ME WITH 1 GALLON OF GAS!  Just filled the tank the day before drop off, more bullshit.  My dash cam SD card was formatted, not really much I can do about that. 3 year, 100k GM warranty at least.  Time to sell it and say **** off to GM.  Bad experience.  Cant wait for the survey email to come through.  Overpriced Raptor R, here I come!
    • If I forget the phone in the truck, and forget the truck in the phone, and reconnect.  It works great for the day.  Truck sits overnight, and the next day is a no go.  It will connect Android Auto via usb cable, but not bluetooth.   Ive tried Everything in this thread so far, and nothing works for more than a day.   I think I might have to go to the dealer and have them flash the pcm.   thanks for all the suggestions guys. 👍
    • 2022 2500HD Crew Z71 Duramax single alternator.  Recently had the primary (water pump / fan) belt tensioner pulley bearing to fail while hundreds of miles from home of course the plastic pulley melted and belt shredded which took out some wiring. Found a replacement tensioner assembly and belt to continue now would like to find a replacement for just the pulley and bearing to have a spare assembly in case of a repeat, the rest of the tensioner is fine. Has anybody here found a correct replacement part for just the pulley and bearing? Any help is appreciated.
    • +1 for the 3.0   Perfect for 1500 pickup towing duties.   Perfect engine for a 1500 pickup period. Huge torque at stunningly low RPM makes it feel a lot lighter than it is. The fuel mileage is insane for a tall and heavy 1500... 30+ on the highway. Mid 20's around town.   It's probably not perfect if you bought a 6.2 for the braaaaaaapppppp V8 noises and wrapping it out to 6k. The LZ0 acts and sounds like a small turbo diesel and there's nothing you can do to make a small turbo diesel sound like a big one, and you can't make an inline diesel sound like a V8 diesel/big Duramax. It's a different driving experience altogether.   Drive one, I think you'll like it, though...
