Stabilitrak Occasionally Engages While Accelerating

I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban with Stabilitrak (which usually works fine). But occasionally, Stabilitrak will engage and cut the throttle while accelerating (for no reason ... it happens on dry clean paved roads). It mostly happens when I take off after having come to a full stop. But occasionally happens when I try to resume speed after slowing down. It only happens at lower speeds, probably under 30 km/hr. And it seems more likely to happen after I've gone up or down a hill or while I'm on an incline but can happen anywhere. Once it falsely engages, Stabilitrak will continue to suppress acceleration for about 5 seconds or until I let go of the gas peddle.

Any idea what might cause this problem? And how much it might cost to fix?

Thanks,

RC

Sounds more like unwanted traction control, remove the front and rear wheel speed sensors and clean off any debris, clean the front mounting surface with die grinder and sanding disc, check reluctors on the rear axle for being snug, they will turn if pryed on hard enough but should be snug enough not to spin on the axle. This usually takes care of any unwanted traction activations.

Are you sure your not mistaking Stabilitrak with ABS? If you have a bad hub or hub sensor, it will kick the ABS at low speeds. My brother-in-law's Yukon Denali just went thru that. Replace the hubs and the problem went away

ABS = braking (has to see a brake pedal input)

Traction = drive wheel spin (ABS but in reverse, essentially)

Stability = Vehicle deviating from the driver's projected path while driving down the road.

1000 to 1 odds, you have an unwanted traction activation. Clean the front wss mounting surfaces of rust and try it again.

Do you have matching sized and wear tires front and back? If your tires are smaller even slightly from different amounts of wear, at take off and rapid acceleration the smaller faster turning rear wheels will make the computer think they are slipping.
