Brand New Trucks At Dealer With Defects

I stopped by my local chevy dealership getting some parts and supplies. Went through the lot looking at '11 Silverados and my god, there were SEVERAL that had all the issues which members have complained about on here (all brand new trucks !). . Saw 2 1500 crew cabs with the rear bowtie already peeling and discoloring from the inside as well as a 1500 lt ext cab with RUST on the front bumper . There was a sheer silver 2500HD that I could clearly see tiger stripping in the paint on the driver side bed, and 3500HD crewcab work truck with a massive amount of frame coating missing on the passenger side was was replaced with a nice coat of rust (which you could see as you walked up to the truck)

What the hell is going one with these trucks recently ? Is GM going back in time as far as quality control? Back in 09 when I got my 2500HD you didn't see ANY of the things I have seen on these trucks, all were very well put together that I inspected/drove (including the one I brought home).

I feel for you guys that have 2011s with issues, quality is going downhill fast for some reason.

I wonder if it has anything to do with where they were assembled and consequently where the parts were supplied from? My '09 was assembled in the Oshawa plant and aside from some minor rust in some common areas in the undercarriage, I have had zero problems.

It might be. I wasn't happy to see Mexico listed as a major parts supplier on my window sticker. Even less happy that my Subaru only had like 10% US parts content than my truck does. Kind of backward that Toyota's trucks have more American part content than GM or Ford.

When we bought our truck a couple of weeks back, there was an identical unit right alongside our truck. We did a visual comparison between the two identical vehicles and noticed that the other one had a visibly tilted rear bumper and incorrectly installed bolts in the rear tailgate. Another 2500HD Duramax we test drove (10-16 miles on the odo) had rust on the intake manifold and, when brought to the attention of the sales guy, we were told that "some of them do that." Needless to say, we inspected as much as we could before we took delivery!

Might be, I know all the HD trucks are made at Flint, might also be made in the Indiana plant but not sure.

My 09 2500HD was made at the (now closed unfortunately) Pontiac Assembly Center.

What a horrible first impression for a new truck buyer these trucks I saw are, anybody thinking about switching over to a GM from another brand who sees these issues is going to walk away, and I loyal GM person (like myself) is going to have second thoughts

Too bad people just do not walk away from these vehicles and tell the salespeople why they are not buying them. If GM had lot fulls of unsold trucks they would get the message real quick. It seems that the recent sales success has gone to their head. They need another lesson. Like another bankruptcy, and this time no government to bail them out.

Seriously, it seems that all GM is doing recently is cheapening the vehicles and driving the sticker prices to astronomical levels. This will backfire on them badly.

That sucks, I really hate it when people bash GM during conversation since 5 out of the 6 cars on my driveway are GM, but its becoming more and more difficult to defend the general with quality issues like this. They really need to deliver on this to keep loyal customers like most of us on this site.

I have a 2011 Chevy HD and it is flawless so far. I am fixing to paint my bowties,but they are flawless so far. As far as quality issues, i looked at Ford before i bought my Chevy and while they are nice trucks there were issues with the bed corner being closer on the driver side than on the pass side. Man step handle felt like it was fixing to break while stepping into the bed. I came from a 07 Tundra and talk about quality issues. There were so many issues on that truck. Rusted lugnuts,bumpers,bedbounce,air vents wont stay in place,driveshaft clunk on take off and stop, clock wouldnt keep time only in the summer,air induction pumps that prematuraly crap out due to a bad design that cost thousands to fix out of your own pocket. List goes on and on. All truck brands have issues,but the one i just bought is head and shoulders better than what i had.

I think we'll be seeing a "New Revolution" coming from GM soon, given all these issues. At least I hope so. But then again, I'm planning on holding onto my GMT-800 for at least the next 10+ years so they have that long to fix all these screw up's, or go out of business lol

I really like to check a new truck as much as I can. Obviously, there is only so much that a normal person can see, though.

When I bought my new truch last year, a 2010 Silverado 1500 4WD LTZ Z-71, CC/SB, 5.3/3.42 with the six-speed tranny in Victory Red, there was literally nothing even close in Portland. There was one, exactly what I wanted, in Vancouver, Washington.

So my Chevy Dealer, Town & Country Chevrolet in Milwaukie, Oregon, called the dealership that had the truck. Curt Warner Chevrolet promised the truck was ready for pickup and my sales lady drove over to make the trade. And they refused to trade when my sales gal got there.

So we did another computer search and found precisely the right truck; the only prob was that it was on a dealers lot 100 miles away in Tillamook, Oregon. And the dealership was closing for the day when we called. Worse, it was Saturday and we could not get our new truck until Monday.

It was a bad weekend; I just knew that my new truck would be dicked up somehow.

Bright and early Monday morning, T&C sent a lot man to Tillamook to pick up my truck. I was prepared for it to be screwed up somehow. When it arrived about noon (I wasn't anxious or ANYTHING :grin), I went over it with the proverbial fine-tooth comb. Other than being made three months earlier and sitting on a lot for a month, the truck was perfect in every way I could find.

My gorgeous Victory Red Truck is almost thirteen months old now and it has been virtually perfect. The paint is perfect, the leather is perfect; the danged truck is absolutely flawless in every possible way.

Like most here, I have seen the horrors on the new truck lots. When we bought Karen's Tahoe in 2004, I turned one down (the one next to the one that would be hers) because all of the carpets were soaking wet ... there was a fracking leak, a horrible one, and I didn't need that problem. And Karen's beloved Tahoe LT has been a perfect truck in every possible way.

YEAH, I really worried when the lot man drove my new 2010 truck from the Oregon Coast to T&C. If threre had been the slightest flaw that I could have seen, I would have rejected it and simply ordered a new one ... and waited three months. And still, when you order one, it is a sample of ONE and IT can be dicked up.

I truly love my 2010 CC/SB LBZ. It is one hell of a perfect truck.

The only minor gimps on either of my trucks were caused by..............the owner. Good vehicles. Don't know about new ones. Maybe later this year.

I have an 07. So far, it has been exemplary. Had a few minor issues --- nothing to complain too much about.

I did look at an 11 recently on the dealer's lot, and found quite a few things that would have caused me to have an issue if I was seriously trying to trade or get a newer one.

It DOES seem that as the model years progressed from 07 onwards that things took a slight turn south.

Mine is a canadian built truck, and, as stated, has exceeded expectations.

With near 45k on the clock, it has new tires, aftermarket slotted/dimpled rotors and hawk performance brake pads. I upgraded the heated washer fluid unit to an alphatherm.

Had ONE issue where an HVAC actuator got drunk and locked the AC into defrost mode. Was fixed under warranty.

Otherwise, nothing other than enjoyable, problem free ownership.
