Using Iphone As Gps

Hey - I'm looking for opinions on how to use my iphone 4 as a GPS in my truck. Specifically, if I could put one of these Arkon mounts (http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Universal-Wind...s/dp/B003ELOOZO) inside the empty space in my dash, my iPhone would be at a usable height and distance for me to use effectively. I'm thinking that I could just attach the sticky part of the mount to either the sides, back or bottom of the pictured opening, then use the protruding piece to mount my iPhone on. Before I get too far with this, have any of you ever tried something like this? Did it work? Do you know if the circular adhesive disk is larger than the hole, making my idea unworkable?

Take a look at this thread http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...3&hl=heated

I know its on heated seats but bear with me.. on page 3 about half way down you'll see the switches installed. On page 4 there is a list of the installation pages...look at step 7.. it shows how to remove the cubby and install the switch.

I would take the kit part number..17803282.. to a dealer along with a print out of step 7 and have them order you a replacement switch plate and stick the disc to it. This way you don't damage your dash at all and you'll get more surface to stick to and if you trade it in you can just replace the cubby and be done.

This is just an idea for you, hope it helps some. :)

You know, I never even thought about that. I think I'm going to first see if I can get one of those circular adhesive mounts on the inside right side of the opening, with the arm and phone holder protruding out. I just measured, and if the circular disc and mount base have less than a 3" diameter, I think I can pull it off. If not, I'll order up one of those heated seat plates and just stick the thing to that. Thanks for the good idea.

That's the ticket! I think we might have found a solution here - something that's easily visible, pretty sturdy, and that can be easily removed and stored when not needed (more than 1/2 of the time). I'm going to give these guys a call first thing tomorrow morning and get a few questions answered (i.e. will it hold my phone in its' Otterbox case), and place an order. Thank you very much for this idea.

The Iphone holder that I posted is adjustable. It fits with my Magpul cover on it plus there was more room if it were larger. I would call them just to be sure.
