99' Nbs Silverado, Trouble Shifting Out Of Park.

Hello,

I recently began experiencing an issue with my pickup. When the truck sits on flat ground, I apply the brake and shift out of park and into reverse/drive etc just fine. When the truck sits on any small incline, it will hardly get out of park, you have to pull really hard on the shifter to get it to move.

Any thoughts or things to check for before bringing it in?

Thanks,Pete

Just wear overtime on the parking pawl can make it hard to get out of park on an incline, and when it does it might make a clunk, you can always set your parking brake before shifting into park on an incline to avoid this "torque lock".

That's torque lock, i have the exact same problem with my truck. Try putting your truck in neutral then putting the parking break on and then shifting into park, this should work...doesn't work for me though since my parking break doesn't work

Does this just randomly happen overnight? Last week my truck had no signs of this and shifted very smooth in the driveway (almost completely flat). I just went out and tried it again, even on the flat surface it's very hard to initially shift out of park. Once it's out, if I hold the brake down and dont let off it, I can shift in and out of park fairly easy. It also makes a louder 'clunk' than I ever remember hearing when shifting into Drive :-/

Im not 100% sure, but it is more than likely the parking pawl. The only time my truck is ever really on a steep enough hill to bother it is the boat ramp. But my solution to that problem is to just put a big rock beneath both back tires, that way when you shift it in park the truck has something roll back against and it doesn't put all that stress on the transmission and parking pawl
