Tahoe Weight Document

Hi!

I just found this forum, looks like a serious, not a bling and stereo forum. I'm from Norway and bought a -02 Tahoe with LPG/ propan system for daily driver . Has 2 owners earlier and well serviced. I also have a -79 Camaro that i'm rebuilding and doing a lot of upgrades like EFI and bigger brakes. Pro-Touring style of build. Anyway here is my "problem" :

Here in Norway we have some really stupid rules. .... I have a -02 Tahoe. Here

in Norway all of these are registerd as trucks OVER 3500 kg. Because of import

taxes. These are delivered without rear seats and 2/3 front seat. Because of

this "truck title" the road taxes/ toll roads are 3 times higher than a normal

car ? This would not be a problem if we could register the car as a "normal

car", not truck. Under 3500 kg or as buildt from new ? The Norwegian DOT say

they need a document from GM that tell the car is safe at lower weight, as

built. The door sticker says 3085 kg..... The Norwegian importer is not

interessted in supplying these documents. They probably don't make any money

doing this.

Is it possible to get a document from GM in US linked to my car's VIN ? and confirm the weight on the sticker. I sendt a mail to GM support and they forwarded the mail to Norway, NO help....

PLEASE HELP MEgr_stretch.gif

Thanks!

try the VIN decoder:

http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

you will have to do the conversion for the units

I found the following info, you should be able to pull up one of these RPO codes on your VIN:

C6P 1985 to 2009 GVW RATING(8600 LBS) 8600 GVWR(C6P)

C6W 1985 to 2009 GVW RATING(9200 LBS) 9200 GVWR(C6W)

C7H 2000 to 2009 GVW RATING 6400 LBS 6400 GVWR(C7H)

C7K 2000 to 2007 GVW RATING 6500 LBS 6500 LB GVWR(C7K)

C7L 1985 to 2009 GVW RATING(12000 LBS) 12000 GVWR(C7L)

C7W 2001 to 2009 GVW RATING 11, 400 LBS 11,400 GVWR(C7W)

These are the Governor weights, not the vehicles actual weight (not sure what it is you are needing).

Hope this is at least a step in the right direction.

Have seen that site, but it's not a GM site..

Thanks!

try to contact these people:

http://www.window-sticker.com/

they can print a reproduction of your original window sticker (on the "sticker" type paper) which should list it's weight (ask them about that to be sure).

if they can not get all of the info needed there are members here that can pull your vehicle's history and build sheet to fill in the missing info.

Wouldn't the title have the GVWR printed somewhere?

I don't know how common American trucks are in Norway but the best thing to do might be to talk to someone else locally who has a similar vehicle and see what they did to get through this paperwork hassle.

There is a lot of these trucks/ SUV here in Norway. They all have raised/increased the GVWR to 3560kg in the title. Cars over 3500 kg have lower import taxes because they are registered in the Norwegian DOT and TAX system as trucks. A tahoe 5/6 seat registerd as a car costs 1.2 mill kr or about $ 200 000,- !!!! They have maybe sold 1-3 wit rear seat and registered as car ...They are also delivered without rear seat only 2/3 front bench. ( We get the rear seat with the car) After 10 years we can put the rear seat in without paying any tax. Car is still a truck with 5/6 seats. Means higher road taxes, DOT inspection every year, special driving licence +++.

But as i said the door sticker shows 3085 kg but this is not good enough for DOT.I need something from GM linked to the cars VIN

They didn't list any Tahoe....

I know this, but read on their site a little more - it says if your vehicle is not listed they might still be able to help, just contact them with your VIN

Is a French registration could help you ? I could have a copy very easy, I have a lot of friends with Tahoe and LPG.

I might need that as a extra documentation. Iif you can scan a title an e-mail to me it would be great. One more question. Here in Norway all cars must be approved by the Norwegian DOT. I think you also have that system in your country. This means that the importer, here GM must get the model approved/ licensed before they start selling the model. If you also can get a copy of this document. This will atleast be one small step forward.

Thank you!

For us in France, and it is same for the European Communality , we need a specific approval for imported cars from outside the European countries, I suppose if the cars is approval in Europe it will be approval in your country. For the documents I can ask at my friends on French forum : american4x4.net.

give me the characteristics (model year, engine, trim level, etc..) I will ask.

Send me you e-mail by pm.

    • Does anyone know if the GM 85628205 and 85628208 are interchangeable?   The 85628205 is an assembly of the seals mated to a thin metal shim and the 85628208 appear to be just the rubber seals without being an assembly. The reason I am asking is that I'm installing a PPE Thermal Bypass Valve and it doesn't come with seals.
    • Thanks @newdude, guess I'll keep looking.  Test driving so many trucks that have obvious things broken, I'm thinking "if they couldn't even be bothered to fix the power seat," what else is broken".   Just drove a 2021 where the power seat motor was grinding/binding and wouldn't do anything but make a terrible sound.   An owner that puts dents on the bumper, doesn't fix a seat motor, and had spotty service intervals (along with missing major services) doesn't give me the best of confidence.   Amazed at the number of people that will finance a $60k+ truck, run it into the ground, then trade with a loan balance (every single one had "loan/lien reported" on the CARFAX at the last year of registration).
    • Not true! I have been runing them since 2006 F250! suspension component that works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring points directly to the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) kit. Works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring.
    • Here's a starter kit:    CC Jensen, a Danish oil testing Concern gives us the following guidelines:   ISO 14/12/10 Very Clean Oil ISO 16/14/11 Clean Oil ISO 17/15/12 Lightly Contaminated ISO 19/17/14 New Oil ISO 22/20/17 Very Contaminated and not suitable for any service.   In addition CC Jensen gives a table showing how engine life is increased by cleaning up the oil. For example cleaning the oil from 19/17/14 to 13/11/8 will extend motor life by a factor of 6X.   But even cleaning it two “Life Extension Classes” will double motor life. So perhaps giving those classes would be useful:   21/19/16 20/18/15 19/17/14 18/16/13 17/15/12 16/14/11 15/13/10 14/12/9 13/11/8   *************************************   https://testoil.com/program-management/setting-iso-cleanliness-targets/   Third paragraph from the bottom will give a starting point.    Your next question should be, okay 10um at what Beta ratio and the answer is in the graph Beta 75.   Then the next question is what is your chosen filters profile? (Purolator PL series below) The red dot is Beta 75. This was the information I obtained from MANN a few years ago. So the best filters, Purolator One, AMSOIL EA, FRAM Ultra, Royal Purple, Bosch Premium should get a doubling engine life over filters like Purolator L, any service filter from any quick lube, WIX, NAPA, STP, Mobil 1, Purolator BOSS.    And as noted by CC Jensen a 2-5 micron @ Beta 200 bypass system has the capability of a six fold improvement. AMSOIL has such a system as does Donaldson.       Now having said all that testing is the touchstone. Test the oil NEW and test it with your chosen filter. Then test over milage. Do the work, get the result. But understand this in NOT absolute BECAUSE this is one factor in isolation.   Example:    A valve spring supplier can state that with cam X and a valve train of Y grams the valves will not float to 7K rpm. is that true if the builder choose a system 20 grams over limit? Common sense must be used and limits understood.
