Advent Oem-style Navigation Installed!

I think that once you got comfortable with the navi, you wouldn't miss Turn by Turn at all. Do other owners agree?
ive never tried the turn by turn, but can compare the factory nav to the advent really well. just this morning thefactory nav took us down a dead end street. the graphics and layout on the factory are just horrible in comparison.
Yes it does take 10-15 seconds however by the time I get my seat belt on and settled my unit is playing music and ready to roll, its not a big deal at least to me.
maybe im just faster in my somewhat young age :seeya: , but im buckled in, backed out of the driveway and at the end of the street before mine comes on. its really a pain since there is no backup camera when the unit is not on for those 15-25 secs. and since i really only back when the vehicle is first started, theres no camera present for the majority of my backing. my list of changes i would love to see since i hear the advent guys are reading; - faster startup to music. my wifes nav starts music right away but takes about 4-5 secs to load an image. maybe radio can be loaded first. - xm and fm together. this seems like an easy code reprogram - autoload of the nav. maybe im missing something, but mine doesnt load until i hit the nav button. seems again it could load when everything else is done. btw, i also just installed a set of focal 165 vr components up front. totally changes the overall sound and plays much louder with the advent hu than the factory speakers. i still think im going to find an amp though since the hu still isnt pushing enough rms watts.

I too would like to see the FM-XM be able to integrate like the factory Nav in regards to the favorite button. Having used the factory unit for 5 years I've grown accustomed to scrolling through a mixture of FM-XM presets from the steering wheel control button. I realize you can use source button from the steering wheel but you have to cycle through AM which I have no presets for.

And also the map software should ideally load automatically whether you push the button or not. So that way when you are driving and need it its already loaded and running in the back ground. It shouldn't have to load the database every time.

The legal acceptance 100% of the time seems overkill too. Even GM integrated an occasional acceptance feature which didn't make you press accept every time you opened the map view. With Advent having a "demo" mode where you can adjust other features while driving shouldn't demo mode include not having to accept the legal statement each and every time?

These are only observations and being mentioned since they are software based (easy to update) and perhaps Advent does read these and considers our suggestions.

So wish list would be:

1. Autoload map software with a command during boot-up. Even it has to be prioritized after master boot and radio as long as it is in the string.

2. Add a favorites button to the band group where you can include FM-XM-AM presents into one group that can be cycled from steering wheel without changing source.

3. Change the legal acceptance requirement to every 10 uses or the GM algorithm of some infrequency. Or allow you to omit the requirement completely if running your unit in "demo" mode. If demo mode allows me to watch DVD's going 100 mph down the hwy I would think bypassing the acceptance screen would be acceptable. Heck just make a 10 page legal disclaimer you must accept to go into demo mode which addresses navigation, DVD's etc all in one place at one time. Then once you accept and go into demo mode you never have to worry about loading a map database while driving and having to click accept while driving which to me seems more dangerous anyway.

I do love the unit and most all features are a major upgrade over factory. Sound included.

I know making suggestions like this to GM or Ford would go unaddressed but with a small focused company like Advent perhaps they are willing to adopt these suggestions more easily and make this unit better than factory in EVERY way.

my 2 cents

i agree with the above. i dont want to sound negative or sound like i regret my decision; i dont. i just would love to see a great device become perfect. a few programming changes could make it happen. lots before me have bitched and advent has listened. id would just like this considered for the next firmware update.

I agree, all of those would be awesome if they were one day incorporated in an update.

Walt, are you implying that some of the features above can be changed in sysconfigurator? Please say yes...... even though I didnt see any of those...... I may have to look again.

I'm pretty sure SysConfigurator only applies to the iGo mapping software. I wish there was a way to customize the unit. I'd like to change some of the color schemes and the icons on the menu page.

I also still have that "lag" when changing songs on a CD. Its takes about 2secs. I know it seems petty but it aggravates the hell out of me....

Want to automatically start iGo when the deck fires up so it's all nice and toasty warm when you want to switch to it?

Check the "Time delay before start navigation" box on the interface option page (here it's set at 3 seconds):

WHere is sysconfigurator located?

There is a download link on the ADC website for several files specific to the iGo Navi. Once you sign in for the support section you can find it under Support, Product Support, Advent Navi support, mapping... There is a great tutorial on some files and changes you can make to the iGo function. You will see the download link (3rd party site) for sysconfig. The 3rd party is a file sharing website which can be a little pain, You can download for free but it pushes awful hard for you to join and omit the ad's etc....

This link is also where you download the additional cars and mapping splash screen files. I added like 250 3-D cars to my Advent mapping so now I can choose a tank, space shuttle, porsche, etc... very cool

If you have issues with finding or downloading the specific files read through the support page at ADC, it explains everything. If you are not able to sign in to the ADC site to go into support contact Walt at ADC mobile and he can give you sign in credentials assuming you purchased an Advent from him.

Yes, the free file share site is a bit of a pain. When you click on the file and it directs you to the site you should see the download now button. It may be towards the bottom and is in red. The premium membership is in green I believe. I had to go a few different times to get access as it would say "server busy for free download, upgrade now for immediate access". It tried really hard for you to buy their service to download but be patient, you can download for free when given the option finally.

This file share site is one of worst and I hope Walt considers another service in the future. It does such a great job at tutorials and explaining things but sending folks to this 3rd party "spam" site is not the best approach. I know due to the size of the files you have to use another download site to get these files but surely there is a better one out there.

Anyway, A for effort to ADC but they are so polished up until you get directed to this annoying site and then you start questioning things.

Hope this helps

Just tried like 5 times, site keeps throwing an error when trying to download SysConfigurator from the link on Walt's site.

Can someone send it to me?

I also have access to remote tools such as FTP and TeamViewer if anyone is willing to let me transfer from their computer?

I would consider hosting this stuff on our server, but I don't want to take the hit for traffic.

If there's a better site to host these files, I'm all ears. Any ideas?

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
