honestly i don't know why anyone would want to replace a factory nav with an aftermarket one unless your looking to get a better mapping system or want it to change up the sound system to aftermarket speakers and subs. it sounds like it is more economic for you to get the backup camera and have it tie into your factory nav.

 

 

Well, I actually went ahead and ordered mine. Should be here today and ready for install once I grab the beers.

I hear what you're saying about not knowing why anyone would change their factory nav for an aftermarket.

Can't speak for anyone else but I will tell you why I did. (or am later today)

 

I am pulling my factory nav out along with factory antenna and the GM map and will sell on Ebay. It will probably sell for 600.00 +.

So basically for $400.00 more I will get a back up camera, which I didn't have. A DVD player, which I didn't have, Bluetooth which I didn't have and medialink for my iphone 4s...which I didn't have. So for me these are all valuable and cheaper than buying a new truck to get them, which I did contemplate.

 

Not to mention noticeably better sound from my bose speakers which many have claimed it provides.

And when you add the iGo mapping which without question is better then GM's antiquated system I think it makes sense, again for me it does.

So for a little money and a little sacrifice of my time of about 25 seconds for boot-up I'm good with the trade-offs.

My truck has 3000+ hours of run time on it, I'll give up some minutes or even hours of boot-up time for 2900 hours of better of everything else.

 

It all really depends on the person and what "factory nav" they currently have.

Having said all that if I had a 2010+ LTZ verses my 2007 then my nav would have bluetooth, camera, medialink and DVD and like you I wouldn't see why on earth I would swap for an aftermarket unit. But for now I still have a 2007 so this unit seems to be the best of the aftermarket units.

When I wake up tomorrow I will have all these things I have been missing and still no truck payment, perspective is everything.

I've done at least a half-dozen of these type of swaps for local customers - pulling the factory navi and installing this deck. When you consider what you can get out of the factory unit on Ebay vs. what the Advent costs, it's about as much of a no-brainer as it gets!

I agree, just sold my factory Nav and factory GPS antenna on ebay which really offset the Advent cost. The new Igo nav functionality is really nice and feature rich, unlike the GM nav.

Plus my bluetooth sounds great, everyone I speak to says its clear and they can hear me fine. I love the unit and happy with the purchase.

Also for those who comment about the boot up time. Yes it does take 10-15 seconds however by the time I get my seat belt on and settled my unit is playing music and ready to roll, its not a big deal at least to me.

If anybody is on the fence I would suggest calling Walt at ADC and just talking with him. He can explain anything and really make you feel comfortable about buying the unit.

OnStar works as it does from the factory. What it DOESN'T do is work for turn-by-turn with the arrows and instructions sent to the deck. Audio only.

 

I think that once you got comfortable with the navi, you wouldn't miss Turn by Turn at all.

 

Do other owners agree?

I have the Advent unit and still have the Onstar turn by turn(only because i paid a year ahead for it).You will still get the Audio and instructions in your information center. The two times I have used it since putting in the OGM I have found both to select the same route, right down to the recalculations. I'm sure at some point they will differ, but as soon as my subscription runs out on the turn by turn I'm cancelling.

Yep! After I spoke to you about updating the firmware I called OS and switched to the basic plan. I love the new maps.

ive never tried the turn by turn, but can compare the factory nav to the advent really well. just this morning thefactory nav took us down a dead end street. the graphics and layout on the factory are just horrible in comparison.

maybe im just faster in my somewhat young age :seeya: , but im buckled in, backed out of the driveway and at the end of the street before mine comes on. its really a pain since there is no backup camera when the unit is not on for those 15-25 secs. and since i really only back when the vehicle is first started, theres no camera present for the majority of my backing.

 

my list of changes i would love to see since i hear the advent guys are reading;

 

- faster startup to music. my wifes nav starts music right away but takes about 4-5 secs to load an image. maybe radio can be loaded first.

- xm and fm together. this seems like an easy code reprogram

- autoload of the nav. maybe im missing something, but mine doesnt load until i hit the nav button. seems again it could load when everything else is done.

 

btw, i also just installed a set of focal 165 vr components up front. totally changes the overall sound and plays much louder with the advent hu than the factory speakers. i still think im going to find an amp though since the hu still isnt pushing enough rms watts.

If I don't remote start it first, I get in, fire it up, buckle my seatbelt, get the heat/AC where it needs to be then I take off. The startup time is a non-issue to me. I kept my presets segregated before (FM was the first two favorites, XM the next two, etc) so that isn't a problem but I'd like to see the steering wheel controls do what they do for FM and scan presets, not all channels. The only other gripe I have is I wish the iPod interface was more factory like. Right now if I click an artist, I get all their songs. I'd much prefer it if I could go Artist-Album-Song. I know I can just display by album but that's a pain in the ass, I have nearly 200 albums on mine.

PM Walt for pricing. The factory microphone can't be used with this deck but the factory Bluetooth remains, the deck's BT is a separate system. Steering wheel controls work for the radio but not bluetooth. The default install disables the factory USB port but there are ways around this. Find the thread I created for how I retained the factory port functionality. This will not do anything to the OE remote start.

On mine unit, once the splash screen comes on and i put it in reverse my backup camera comes on. But most of the time i let the truck warm up since i have a diesel. It works for me.

I talked to the engineer at Advent in charge of the iPod interface for these decks quite awhile ago, and the response was that this interface wasn't designed to absolutely mimic the flow of the iPod, but that it is Apple certified. My question was "doesn't Apple require you to mimic the flow of the iPod?" and the answer was surprisingly "No".

 

Since Apple doesn't require that functionality to pass their certification process, there's not any incentive to include it.

 

Now is that Advent's fault for not adding it? I don't think so. I think it goes more to Apple's standards for all of the different versions of iPod/Classic/Touch/Phone/Nano/etc. and what THEY think needs to be in place to pass the certification process for all of those models. Maybe one of those flavors of interface didn't play well in this environment regarding Artist>Album>Song navigation. Who knows? I think we'd have to ask Apple.

 

From what I've been able to determine, if Apple required it, it would be there...

      .30” of rain all month and it’s been weeks since that. “Mowed” our two properties today for the first time since July 2nd. It only took 30 minutes because all I had to do was level some weeds and saplings in a few problem areas. Everything else is dead.

      According to the dealer it’s an internal leak/failure of the compressor.  Again, another failure that shouldn’t happen at only 5 years and 80k miles.  For some reason the compressors must be hard to come by right now, because the truck’s been at the dealer almost a week and they just located a compressor at another dealer several states away today.  We’ll see if this fixes the issue.

      I'm not sure if this should be a reply on this thread or a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - ACDelco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles. When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so i did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance.

      I wasn’t commenting on your post. Certainly wasn’t arguing. I was making an observation on my long term experience with supposedly proper length of driving for proper heat cycles. Works for me. Although I have seen water or vapor come out of exhaust when vehicles weren’t run very long and shut off. It’s very humid in the morning. Then hot and humid.
