Also, does the 'talking head' button on the steering wheel mute the radio like OEM? (if you hold the talking head button down, then it accesses OnStar)

Hey guys,

My first post on this forum. I just purchased a 2011 Silverado three weeks ago, and this thread is what got me to join up. After installing a Pioneer Navi unit in my 2009 HHR SS, I had already decided I wasn't going to fuss with putting one in my truck......enter this thread, Walt's knowledge, and the Advent product. In the coming weeks I will be buying this unit and the tailgate handle camera kit to put into my truck.

What a wonderful forum this is, and I would like to thank the original poster, Walt and everyone else that has made this singlehandedly one of the most informative and useful topics I've ever read.

Can't wait until I can order my Advent system!!

Happy Holidays,

Randy

Yes, it mutes with a press, and if you hold it, it accesses Onstar/factory Bluetooth

Just installed the OGM1 Advent myself - pretty straight forward got stuck on a couple of items, but Walt and Ben from ADCMobile, help me out. Can't give enough praise on how helpful these guys are!. First thing I noticed when I turned it on was the sound quality was amazing. Really enjoying all of the features.

I live in California, and would still order it from Walt and crew at ADMobile.

I picked up and installed this a week ago. Buying something that isn't local can be stressful. But rest assured Walt lived up to his reputation that he has here. Everything was taken care of. It was 1800km over 4 days that I got very familiar with this unit. On to my impressions of the unit.

The install was really easy. It was plug and play. The fit and finish was right on. My truck is a SLE so taking the dash trim off wasn't a problem at all. Everything fit. The only thing that need to be physically connected by soldering was the backup camera. Walt's install video was really helpful in routing the mic and GPS wires.

Nav on the unit was actually better than I expected. It's not perfect but totally usable. I did use it extensively over the 4 days and it did a really good job. It did screwed up one time when driving up to Big Mountain, where it said that I was driving THROUGH the mountain but had full bars on the GPS meter. Maybe navigating on an old road? Who knows it did correct itself though after a couple of miles. On a second time, much later after a couple of stops, the voice guidance stopped working. Restarting the Nav didn't help. It had to have the power shut off and restarted. It only did this once so hopefully it was a one time deal.

The bluetooth is good. But as stated by someone else here it would be nice to have the steering wheel controls answer calls and heater fan reduced like factory bluetooth (onstar). Bluetooth audio works well, but it would be nice to be able to skip track with the steering wheel. I know it's a little thing but when your accustomed to it, you miss it. Album art would be nice too.

The iPod (IPhone) worked really good too. It was nice to be able to play videos and music. I used the cable that was shipped with the unit coming home but have changed it out to an actual iPod composite cable that I had at home so I could stream Netflix etc. It would be nice to do this with the usb hooked up to the jlink connector. It did act funny on time where the sound was stuttering and had to be restarted. Other that that it was cool to be able to watch a video from itunes (Moto 3: the movie) while test driving.

The unit has performed flawlessly the rest of this week so hopefully the few issues were flukes. Overall I'm very happy with the unit. I haven't been able to see the back up camera video on it yet as it's been dark when I get home every night this week. But in the dark it seems ok. I do like the pic of the vehicle with the sensors and what sensor are being activated and distances. You probably don't need it but it's cool to have/see. Also the warning display in reverse has to be moved. It's the worse place for it. I would like to see the ball! That's it.

I installed mine last night...half hour start to finish thanks to Walt's help. This thing is awesome. Amazing how everything just works so easy and pictures don't do it justice...it looks beautiful in the dash. After messing around quite a bit with Pioneer navi units in my other vehicles, I can promise you that I will never buy anything but an Advent from here on out.

My truck is a crew cab that does not have the rear entertainment system. I don't really want to invest in any type of permanent rear monitors. What I'd like to be able to do is find some cheap monitors that strap to the back of the front seats and run off of the video out from the OGM-1. I don't care about hiding wires for this as I'll only use it for one or two long trips per year. Has anyone else done this? Also, is there a separate audio output from the OGM-1 so I could output both audio and video to the rear seat from say a DVD while still listening to XM in the front?

Thanks

Hey guys, another question during my shopping, sorry for being a pest ;)

1) If you DON'T have a rear view camera installed, do you still get the little picture of the 'car' on the screen that shows the backup sensors going off?

2) Can you retain the factory bluetooth phone (turning the function off on the OGM1) however still stream music wirelessly to the unit? Or is it all-or-nothing?
