Advent Oem-style Navigation Installed!

Well, I wont be missing that feature as I let my XM subscription run out. Not to say I wont subscribe again but I wouldnt have even known the difference because of my lack of steering wheel controls in the first place.

One thing I am curious about is resolution/picture quality? Any info on this?

Resolution on the Advent is WVGA - 800 x 480 - the same as a Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT. It is very sharp and right up there with the best aftermarket nav units. In fact, I was in a 2011 Acadia w/factory navi yesterday and compared the resolution on the factory unit to the Advent and it may have just been my eyes, but the factory res looked pitiful next to the Advent. I'm guessing it was something in the 540 x 360 or so range. A very noticeable difference...

that and the factory screens only show shades of blue and white. the Advent has a very nice color scheme, and the splash screen can be made to show anything you want

Sorry for the break in the action... BUT...

This thread is EXACTLY why I finally joined the board. The info shared and the included personal experiences... PRICELESS!! Kudos to all!!! :)

Thanks to all who have posted thus far! And Walt... As soon as I figure out the A/V game plan for my 2011 Silverado 1500 Extendo-Cab... You'll have another customer inbound shortly as I think the choice of H/U is now a no-brainer!

(A good first post if I do say so myself! :) )

Glad to help - this is what turns me on too. I've been an installer for 35 years and rarely get too excited anymore, but this head unit is one of the best to come along in a long time. NO BS.

BTW: new firmware for the OGM1 is right around the corner, so to all who are reading this thread, stand by and we'll have some fixes and some new features very soon...

Walt, might have to chime in on this one. if you buy the optional video ipod cable, it MIGHT. but i don't have that cable so i haven't tried.

I've made up my mind that this is the unit I want. I looked at the Rosen units but I wasn't impressed, the reviews aren't that good, and I heard their customer service is just about non-existent. Is it possible to get a group buy going if there is enough interest?

Never done anything like that before, but PM me with your ideas... :)

With an iPhone or iPad, you are able to output Netflix. I set up this demo on my desk showing an iPad running Netflix with the standard JLINKUSB cable into the iPod input of the OGM-1:

Pretty cool...

Walt - how was this done? I have the JLINK cable too but can't get it to work. Do I have to do it under the "AV IN" section cause it doesn't work there for me??? I think I might've missed the video RCA cable during installation and didn't plug it in....

This is awesome..so basically it will display anything on the iphone/ipod screen?? Can you control the ipad from the advent unit since both are touch screen? example is i play a movie, can I pause the movie on the advent screen? or do you need to press this button on the ipad/iphone (im assuming this is the case). Thanks for doing that, Im pretty much sold on this for when I get a new truck

UPDATE: I fired up the iPad on Netflix, then plugged in the iPod cable, which automatically switched the deck to the iPod input. I then switched to the AV input and it started playing the Netflix output. HOWEVER, there is no audio. My iPad says "No_Volume_Available" when I use the JLINKUSB cable.

I then tried another method: a Peripheral iPod to (male) RCA adaptor plugged into a (female) RCA to 1/8" A/V (male) adaptor which then plugged into the mini 1/8" female jack on the MediaLink pod, and everything works great (and the picture quality is badass!)

I don't know what the issue is on the iPad or if the same issue exists on an iPhone - I don't have one to try (I'm a Droid guy). I'd be interested to see what other's experiences are here and whether it's just a problem with my iPad or with the JLINKUSB/iPad dock interface.

If it is a problem inherent with all iPhones or iPads, then the solution is just to use a different cable setup when you want to do Netflix.

I did notice too that if you change sources, especially if you switch back to iPod input then take control of the iPad to go to other music or video tracks, then switch BACK to the AV source, it doesn't always bring up the Netflix output (at least with my iPad). You need to go out to the menu, then back to the A/V source to get it to recognize there's video signal on that input and play nice, but it seems that if you just want Netflix and don't bounce around the other sources, it's stable as a rock and will play without fail.

It might take some sleuthing to dial in exactly what sequence pisses off either the deck or the iPad if you change and control the other sources a lot, but it DOES seem to work every time from bootup for as log as you want to watch it.

To answer the question about controlling the iPad from the OGM-1: no, you can't control the iPad (or iPhone) from the OGM-1 in A/V mode. You only get audio and video.
