Advent Oem-style Navigation Installed!

I've made up my mind that this is the unit I want. I looked at the Rosen units but I wasn't impressed, the reviews aren't that good, and I heard their customer service is just about non-existent. Is it possible to get a group buy going if there is enough interest?

Never done anything like that before, but PM me with your ideas...

Hello,

Been lurking on this site for a while now and following this thread. I think I am ready to pull the trigger on this unit. Will this group buy be happening?

I also just recently pulled the trigger on the Advent OGM-1. After reading this thread and some of the others, I decided to give Walt at ADC Mobile a call. I have to say Walt is a very knowledgeable guy and was able to answer every question I threw at him about the system. I informed him that I would be installing the unit in my 2010 Chevy Tahoe Z-71 with Bose. Walt then offered to make a custom Tahoe Z-71 splash screen for me and installed it on the unit before he shipped it out to me.

I had an e-mail with tracking info literally like 10 to 15 minutes after hanging up the phone, along with a photo attachment of the splash screen displayed on my radio! That is what I call excellent customer service. The unit arrived within a few days, and after watching Walt's install video that's posted in another thread, the Advent was up and running in my Tahoe within 30 minutes.

Install based on his video instruction was a breeze. Have to say the hardest part I found was getting the clips that hold the radio/h.v.a.c. bezel to release. Wiring was very straight forward as all the wires are marked very clearly.

After having the Advent in the truck now for about a week, I have to say I am very pleased. The unit is by far a much better option than the stock nav radio, as well as known brand name aftermarket nav radios that require all kinds of extra pieces to make them work with all of the factory gadgets. Use of the Advent is very easy to adjust to as you navigate your way through various features. XM display is far superior to factory XM display, and I love the fact that the Advent enhances the sound emitted through the stock speakers. Another nice feature is the backup sensor display on the screen and sound muting when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Even though I have yet to make the leap on the rear camera, these features are an added bonus.

Overall, I have to say I am very happy with my purchase, and highly recommend the Advent OGM-1 to anyone looking to upgrade their factory unit, either nav or non-nav. Furthermore, I would like to thank Walt for the excellent customer service and extremely fast shipping of the unit, as well as the awesome custom splash screen he took the time to install on my unit before shipping it out to me.

i'm glad to see Walt is getting a lot of business from a lot of people on the forum, after my little review!

Your posts are a big reason I went this route. Walts customer service was iceing on the cake. I am a huge custom stereo guy. I normaly do boats for friends and I almost never touch my cars. With this car I wanted the rearview cam after lifting it. Now here I am an ogm groupy!

So add me to the list of Walt's satisfied customers. I also bought the OGM1 (through Walt). Basically, after seeing his installation video, emailing back and forth with him a couple of times, and talking to him on the phone, Iordered, received, and installed the unit myself with really no problems at all. There are some things I am still learning about the unit but overall, I am quite pleased with the purchase and especially the service and support from Walt. You da Man Walt! Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the good words, Tim! Just trying to do the right thing all the time...

BTW: Did the splash screens I sent back install OK?

Charles,

Thanks for the positive review! I appreciate you coming to me for the unit and anything you need help on is just a phone call away.

The splash screens work great. Now I just need to decide which one I want to keep!

I've been trying to download the NAVMATE 5.2.11 update for my OMG-1 from Horizon Nav for two days now without any success. The update quits before it's finished. Has anyone here been able to successfully get this update? I've contacted them about the problem by email but no word back yet.

Glad I found this thread! Been researching the unit for a while now and wanted some real world opinions and reviews.

Are you sure that is meant for that unit? Someone tried something similar for their OGM1 with a Navemate update and it ended up killing the GPS functionality. Think he had to call advent to get it fix.

if it is not released by advent I would be very careful.

check the version of your nav first. this is straight from NavMate's website:

1. Check application version

Please make sure you have the correct software version on your system: OE

a) Power on system.

b) Press NAV button.

c) Click "Press to accept".

d) Select: Menu - Setup (fifth icon at the bottom softkey bar) – Page Down icon - System (bottom of the list) – System Information.

e) Check application version.

if it says v5.2.11 then no update is needed

if it says v5.2.00, then this is the update you need:

http://www.horizonnav.com/downloads.php?index=52

if it says v.5.0.34, v.5.0.43, or v.5.0.46, then this is the update you need:

http://www.horizonnav.com/downloads.php?index=53

to get map updates, go here, but there is not an update yet for the OGM1

I have the NAVMATE 5.2.00 version installed, so the 5.2.11 update is what I need. Problem is that the download quits before it's finished downloading every time. I've tried the download at two other locations with fast, cable internet and they all quit the download before the download is complete. It looks like Horizon Nav's ftp server is timing out for some reason. I have emailed them asking about the problem, but they have not responded. The 5.2.00 version of NAVMATE has some problems and hangs the radio more often than I'd like, so the update is important to me.
