Disabled Washer Fluid Heater Button To Create Separate Amp Remote Wire

Many of us with 07+ NNBS body styles have had our washer fluid heater removed (per the factory recall/bulletin whatever it was) leaving our dash button useless. It got me thinking can this dash button be used to supply enough voltage as a remote turn on for a separate amp (ie sub amp). Is it the right voltage 12 volts i assume? Anyway if anyone has any info I would be very curious if this has any possibilities.

Thanks for the comment but I never really used the feature and am more curious if it can be used for the amp purposes.

It would carry enough voltage, but isn't it timed to shut off? Not sure how it determined when the fluid was hot enough but if you get past that it would be pretty cool.

I have thought about doing this as well. Not for an amp but for an accessory. I know that the switch is a momentory switch to ground, so to make it work you would need to build a momentary to constant relay circuit.

Pretty sure you'd have to re-wire it to pull power from a different source as well since this switch is controlled by the BCM. And if I'm not mistaken, all the switches in that cluster have the same power source wire. I could be wrong about this however, its been a while since I've taken my dash apart. If you could get the correct power to it, you would have to use the momentary of the switch to switch on a relay that then controlled the signal power to the amp. I don't believe the light in the momentary switch would work correctly though. Dunno if that's an issue or not for you.

Assuming the timed shut off(if so equiped) is not somehow built into the switch(not exactly what the switch looks like) but this would be your solution. Hooray for relays!

Thanks for the comments. I did not make it clear that I already have a remote wire that is using a relay to get the proper voltage so does that mean even with that i can not just connect up my current remote wire to this switch to create a somewhat basic toggle switch? I am not worried about cutting the wires as the switch is useless without the heater. If I could just connect anyone know the wire schematics.

I am guessing at this but I believe you will find 3 wires connected to the back of the switch.

 

1) - Ground

2) - Ground return to BCM - Momentary when the button is pushed

3) - Feed to indicator lamp (this might be 5 volts)

 

Take a look here the12volt.com Relays / Special Applications Look down the page at the Latched On/Off Output Using a Single Momentary Pulse (link). This would allow the pulse that is created when you push the button to toggle the circuit on and off.
