New Stereo Advice

I have the standard, non-lux Bose single CD player with the XM module in my 06 Z71. Some of the light bulbs burned out a couple years ago and I replaced them, but I used the slightly brighter bulb and I just haven't been happy with this. I've wanted a navigation setup, but other financial responsibilities take precedence. Now, I'm tired of paying for XM since 2004 and decided that I would be fine using an iPod or even the local radio again. What options do I have since I have the Bose HU? Can I disconnect the XM module, and connect the iPod to the same input without spending $100 for a kit? What about replacement radios? As much as I would like to get a nav unit, I can live without it and get something that will allow for mp3, etc.

Any advice or suggestions for hooking up an aftermarket stereo and maintaining the steering wheel controls, mp3, iPod connections, nav, whatever. I'm open. Thanks for any advice.

Are you looking to go with an aftermarket radio or a factory nav unit?

The only factory Nav unit that I can go with that worth going with is 15800000. I just don't know if it's worth it to spend what people are asking for a 5 year old factory stereo vs. paying the same for a new aftermarket stereo. I have not done any research yet, but a couple minute search found me a Clarion VX400 (among many others) of new aftermarket DVD (non nav) for $350. I'm looking for advice on the best bang for buck system. I'm willing to pay more for quality. I don't want junk, but I don't think I need or want to spend $1000 for a stereo.

I have always been a fan of Pioneer products when it comes to navigation products. IMO they have the best interface and are the most user friendly. A close second would be Kenwood as they use Garmin software, I'm just not a fan of their radios interface. Clarion isn't bad either, but their maps leave alot to be desired.

Pioneer units are DEFINITELY worth a look
