Got My New Sprayed In Bedliner.

I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to take the plunge and get a spray in bed liner. I did some research to scope out my options. I decided to go with Rhino liner. I didn't have any doubt that Line-X would be a little better liner but the closest place to get one was a lot longer drive and unfamiliar city. I was also quoted a lower price for the Rhino, $400. or $425 over the rails, Rhino hardline black. Lifetime warranty against chips, cracks, breaks anything serious. So far so good. After consulting the forum and a few others I decided to go over the rails, I was back a forth for a while but finally decided I wanted the extra protection. That turned out to be my biggest mistake. The installers were pretty sloppy. The inside of the bed looks great. But over the rails looks bad to me. Maybe not too bad from a distance, but every time I walk up close it jumps out at me, it looks a little too thick and the edge is rough. Most of the ones I've seen also come down a little lower so that you are not looking right across the thickness when you look at it. There are also several little rough spots around the edges, close to the cab and around the tailgate where the edges are. Second big complaint, they got some fine overspray in various spots on my truck. The two places you can see it are on the wheels and on the top. It looks like a fine dust on the top of the cab near the windshield, probably around a 10"x10" area. There are also about two other spots on the truck where you can feel it but thank God because the truck is gray you can't see it. Anyways, The product seems great the but install was very disappointing. I know I'm pretty much screwed as far as over the rails. Anybody know of anything that would take off that overspray without harming the clearcoat? I tried my slightly aggressive cleaner wax that I use to buff off scratches or marks and it didn't touch it.

They need to do something about the over spray not you. The should have went a little over the radius of the bed rail would look better but its not to bad. They usually ask how far over you want it. Maybe a tonneau cover would make it look less in your face. But I would contact them and tell them about the over spray its there fault they didn't tape the truck off good. If that stuff is as good as they say its not going to be easy to come off.

if your not satisfied, take it back and have them extend the liner further down the bed rails. tell them to make it a very smooth line because the one they made is too rough! and yes they need to be the ones to pay to get the over spray taken off. from the looks of their work, i wouldn't trust them to try and remove it!!!

Wow, they did a horrible job. I would be all over them and contacting the BBB if they don't get it fixed for you. We have one of our trucks Rhino lined over the rail and the line is good and straight.

Over spray should never happen if they had the whole truck taped off like they are suppose too.

If that were my truck, I'd be pissed! There is NO reason why you should wind up with over spray on your truck - not if they did the job right. And those wavy edges and area between the bed and cab? Amateur hour. I'd be back at the shop first thing today and make them get it right.

if your truck has been waxed a few times, you have a pretty good chance of getting the overspray off without damaging the clearcoat, though if they were that sloppy in the first place, myself I would take my lumps and pay a good autobody shop to do it.

As far as the rails, I agree they look funny cut off that high. I would go back and politely ask them to re-mask it lower, prep it, and respray. To do it right, they need to tape off the original liner, spray it level (thickness-wise) with the original, then remove the tape on the upper portion and lightly spray it again to blend it. Kind of a roll of the dice at this point, but it won;t hurt to ask them to do it. If they care at all, they should be able to fix you up right.

Horrible job! That's exactly why I chose not to go over the rail and bought the OEM bedrail caps so they would only spray the bed and under the rail. It will not be easy to remove that, if it will come off. Cannot believe they even got it on the wheels. They won't be in business long if this is how they apply liners. Take it back, complain to them nicely at first to get something done and then be foreceful if they are not receptive to your claims.

not trying to hijack this thread....

how do you like the OEM bed rails? i had my bedliner sprayed under the rail and i can't decide if i want to get the bed caps or not. i plan on adding a retractable bed cover in the future, and do not want the caps to effect the fitment of that!

I defintely like the OEM bed caps, these were factory installed on my 2005 Sierra that I got rid of. They are smooth and finish off the truck nicely. I've tried uploading pics but had trouble due to file size. e-mail me and I can get you pictures of mine. I got mine from teh dealer where I bought the 2011 Silverado as they sell accessories at a discounted price compared to even GM Parts Direct. They're just north of Houston. I think the caps were $85 for both, and I have a crew cab just like my former 2005 Sierra Z71.

Whoa that is really bad. I would be furious. My lines down my bed are perfectly straight and the "over the rail" part definitely extends further down. The portion that mates to the cab extends further down also. The thing I would be most pissed about is the wavy lines. WTF, seriously.

Man I feel for you. Doing a spray in liner really is a crapshoot because you don't know how it's going to look until its done and you got hosed.

Give them the chance to make it right. Take a ton of photos if you have not already and keep your cool when dealing with them. Good luck.

I get what ya'll are saying but I'm really between a rock and hard place. I thought about getting them to come down lower and smooth out the over the rail area, but the truth is, I'm really afraid to let them touch the truck again. Even if I would have went under the rail, I can't believe they got overspray on it. Pure slop! I'm not going to ask them to remove the overspray. I don't trust them enough, I can just see them using a buffer and taking my clearcoat off. I might think about taking it to a body shop, but if it's costly I'll probably just end up living with it. It's so ridiculous though, over something that didn't have to be.

When my Line-x was sprayed the shop had a problem with the Wiretrim tape and didn't get a smooth line. The line kept breaking with them. They insisted on making it right and redid it that day. It's now straight as an arrow. If the shop is reputable they should make it right on both counts, the trim line and the overspray. My truck is a 900 so the bed is different, but if they fix the trim line, I believe I have them extend it down some. jmo. Good luck

yeah they did a subpar job. get them to make it right. not sure how they can fix the overspray but it shouldn't have happened. sometimes you get what you pay for. $425 is on the cheaper side.

I had a sprayin TuffSkin put in last week, got a good deal from the dealer. I went with the bed only and put the GM railcaps over the rails - Looks really good IMHO. The railcaps match the tailgate lip texture and I am really happy with the job :) They job they did for the OP is clearly crappy. Make them make it right.
