Complete Guage Failure

Hopped in my truck the other day after supper (sunday night, no dealers open) and noticed that the speedo was not moving and the tach was stuck at 750RPM. What the f@*#, i thought. Then I noticed that the temp display on the DIC was not being displayed and that the gear selector indicated that I was in reverse, even though I was in drive. Called Onstar while driving; they could not diagnose anything wrong with the truck. Anyways, got back to my parents house not relishing the 500km drive home with no speedo. Shut the truck off, turned it back on after 5 minutes or so and the guages were still all buggered. Pulled the negative battery cable, waited awhile and hooked it back up. Problem goes away. I've put roughly 1500km since, and the issue has not repeated. Is it worth a trip to the dealer, or like onstar, will they not be able to diagnose the issue, especially as the issue has went away? If anyone has any insight to this issue or has had it occur, I'd like to hear about it.

Sounds like a possible loose connection somewhere? I wouldn't bother taking it in to have it looked at until it acts up again. They will need it to act up to find the problem.
