Need Rearview Mirror Help For Upgrading To Compass/temp

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Silverado LS with a manual rearview mirror with OnStar. I'm wanting to upgrade to an auto dimming, temp/compass rearview mirror with OnStar. Can anyone tell me which ones on ebay would work in my truck? Thanks, Jason

I don't think any of them will for all those functions. Temp and compass are in the DIC of 2011s (not sure when that started) so I doubt the wiring is there for it anymore.

in all honesty I don't think the compass/temp mirror will work on a 2011 I think the wiring is different..

the temp needs a signal from the temp sensor behind the front bumper, and that is being sent to the cluster in the newer models..

and the compass needs the signal from the gyroscope in the vehicle.

but--

this guy is selling it with the sensor:

this one also has the sensor and pigtale and include wiring instructions, and he says if you already have an onstar mirror, this will work.

in addition if you get it working would you let me know..

I am not so interested in the compass/temp as I am in getting a corvette mirror that has the map lights under the mirror. the corvette mirror also has the compass/temp so if it works on yours truck then it should work on mine, and all I would need to do is provide some power for the lights..

I installed the DIC in my 11 last weekend and it doesn't have the comp/temp when scrolling through the options? I have an LS, which has the cheaper instrument cluster in it though. Would I need the nicer LT cluster, that has the 2 extra gauges in order to get the comp/temp? I really just want the temp option. Thanks for the quick replies!

This mirror WILL work in your truck:

Just follow the instructions included, along with the information in this thread:

and everything should work fine. It did for me.

Thanks for the links! I talked to my cousin this morning, who sold me my truck and he said that if I upgraded to the LT gauge cluster that the comp/temp will show up on the cluster. Is that true?

Betcha changing out the mirror will be cheaper than changing the instrument cluster, and you'll have compass and temperature read-out in the mirror, so........

Well, I already bought the LT cluster 2 weeks ago, just haven't got it programmed yet. I have the cheaper cluster, like a WT

I would bet that a new instrument panel wont do anything other than look good. The DIC will allow you to see all AVAILABLE features on your model. Essentially your truck is not wired for the outside temp and doesn't have the outside temp sensors, so you will still need to do some wiring. It's quite easy to install the mirror. I followed that awesome write up posted above when I did mine.

And you DO have the DIC panel to go with the new instrument cluster, don't you?

I like the look of the 6 gauges instead of the 4 gauge cluster, plus I already have it sitting beside me, lol. I bought the DIC panel as well and it doesn't show the temp and compass, but my cousin said my truck was already prewired for both? Worst case if it doesn't have it with the new gauges, I'll buy a mirror and run the wires, no biggy. I actually don't like the auto dimming mirrors, but wanted the comp/temp options.
