Wireless Power Door Lock Addition

Has anyone tried adding remote key fob lock/unlock to late 80's Chev/GMC truck, burbs, etc already equipped with power locks? I have an '87 GMC burb which already has power locks. Tried using a 12V DC 2 pole reversible momentary remote kit, RM66, marketed by clickandlights.com. The kit works fine, but makes the door rocker switches inoperative and has other wiring issues fighting with the lock swtiches too lengthy to explain here. To get the vechicle lock switches and the remote to work, I had to buy two RM66 kits and wire yellow/blue to one switch lead (black/white on vehicle) and wire yellow blue to the vehicle blue lead from kit #2. This works but is a hokey way to accomplish something which, given the rather primitive power lock system on these vehicles, should be easy. The problem seems to be that the relays on the kits are fighting the vechicle relay(s). I have searchd round the web for wireless single pole, double throw momentary wireless switches to no avail.

Does anybody out there have any other ideas?

Hi all, lambrkt here. I resolved the issue in an efficient way. For those of you with '73 - '91 gmc/chev turcks, burbs etc which already have power locks and you want to add remote lock/unlock to what you have without replacing everything, do the following: Go to your nearest parts store and get two single pole double throw, SPDT, 20 - 40 amp relays (these are common headlight relays and cost about 9 bucks). Remove your pass side glove box and tap into the existing lock wiring as follows: ground relay terminals 85. Next, tap the 12+ (hot) wire running to the lock(s) - mine is or/blk, running wires to each relay terminal 87 (87A will not be used). Next run a wire from each relay terminal 30 to your lock/unlock wires (mine are blue and blk/wh). Next take the 12+ (usually red) wire from your wireless remote box and tap it into your 12+ hot. Ground the wirless box ground (usually black) wire. Connect the polarity reversing leads on your wirless control box (mine were blue and yellow) to your relays using termial 86 on each relay. Route the small (green in my case) antenna wire up to the windshield where the remote can 'see' it effectively. You are done.

I used reversing kit RM66 from clickandlights (about $30) and two SPDT relays from NAPA, but any 12V DC 2 pole remote and any SPDT relays will work for you.

The factory relay should be located to the right side of the steering column above the gas pedal. It should have six wires (going from memory here...): OR, BLK, WH, BLU, TAN,GRAY

Orange is 12v, Black is ground, White & Blue are positive inputs to trigger the relay - Tan and Gray are reversing polarity outputs to run the motors.

Trigger the White & Blue with momentary positive outputs from your keyless entry module and you should be good to go
