Almost was sold on a Scat 383 rotating assembly today. It comes with their 9000 cast crank, 4340 rods, and KB hyper rods and pre ballanced by Scat. I almost bought the kit from summit today until they stated I shouldnt buy a kit with cast crank and forged rods. How is this kit? Im expecting no more then 450hp, 6000rpm, no juice and no blower. I have done alot of searches on this kit but no info on mixing a rotating assembly with cast and forged parts. Seems most people do all cast or all forged... no middle ground?

My own personal opinion is that parts are as strong or as durable as the weakest part. If you stay with the confines of a cast crank, it should not matter what the rods are (assuming they are "better" than the crank). Mixing forged rods, with cast crank is fine. As is mixing forged pistons and case rods. Just build the engine to the weakest part.

And it depends what you're gonna do with it. As far as me and my own personal preferences when building an engine I like the strongest bottom end possible. Good forged crank, good rods and pistons, ARP rod bolts, etc. You can't go wrong with strong rotating parts. I'd rather spend a few extra Benjamins and have some peace of mind, but that's just me.

What is the kit for?

I know by the mid 90s stock rods were pretty darn good.

Also be aware that while a Scat cast crank is stronger than an Eagle it is still WEAKER than stock by a fair margin. The chinese cast cranks are not a great place to start for performance. Probably just fine for this low rpm application though.

I dont see what mixing parts like this would hurt anything. But if i was building it,it would be all forged.
