No Sound From Tweeter Or Speaker

Hey guys, installed pinoneer replacement speakers (stock size) in my nbs sierra, and left the stock tweeter and wiring intact. I also added a pioneer in dash touch screen. Worked good for a year, now all of a sudden I have no sound out of my right front door, speaker or tweeter. Hooked the volt meter up to the pioneer speaker and didnt move the needle at all. Any ideas? all fuses are good. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Use your meter and do a continuity test on the speaker wires.

Tried that, got nothing.... it was still hooked up to the truck tough with ignition on as i sodered the wires for the new pioneers.

How do you have the woffer and tweeter wired? if they are wired to the same line out of the HU, then i would start to suspect the hu since they both went at the same time.

The woofer is wired into the back of the head unit with rca cables dedicated to the woofer, totally seperate from the speakers. the head unit connects to the trucks stock harness with the gmos lan module so onstar will be compatible. the tweeter is completely stock.

Ok, not sure I follow 100%. Sounds like your Tweeter is wired completely stock and the new HU is powering it through the factory harness since, I assume, you bought some kind of GM hardness adapter and wired that to the HUs wire harness. Correct?

Now when you say you "dedicated RCA cables to the woofer", I assume you mean speaker wires? Or do you really mean RCA as in low-level line outs? If that is the case, are you running them to an AMP?

Or do you mean you are running speaker wire from the HU to the woofer with power coming from channels separate from the tweeters.

here is my setup, pioneer touch screen hu, pioneer speakers, stock tweeters, bazooka sub/amp combo hooked into hu via rca cables. i never touched anything with the tweeters built into the a posts on the truck. yes there is a harness that allows you to use an aftermarket hu with the truck and it connects it to all the speakers/tweeters. thanks.

Ok. So you have a sub running from the RCA outs So the tweeter and the woofer (in the door) are using factory wiring. If you tested with a meter and the wire is good and they both went at the same time, I still say you have to suspect the head unit. If you have it out, try switching the left and right channels. Dont know how easy it is if the wires are soldiered or butted together.

I took speaker out and tested it with another stereo and it works find. I didnt however get any power when i tested the wires to the speaker from the truck......everything else on the head unit works fine......i guess it has to be a wire???

I had a similar problem with an old hu of mine few years ago, one day out of the blue the right side of the truck speakers stopped running, turns out that the hu was fugged so when I replaced it, it worked just fine, best thing to do would be to pull the hu out and check the power from the wires runnin to the speakers, or try replacing the hu with a new one if you have the money.

I agree. You seem to know the basics of audio/video. Pull the head unit, and the check to see if the signal is coming out of the HU for that speaker. If it is, then you know your wire is bad. If it isn't, then your HU is bad/ormaybe a fuse on the HU. Good luck, and let us know.

geeze I sure hope not, the unit is barely 2 yrs old! so basically pull the hu out, find the wire that goes to the speaker/ tweeter (would it be the same one?) and hook it up to check for power? gonna be tough cause it would be in a harness at the back of the hu.

The most definitive way would be to switch the L and R output at the back of the head unit speaker wire outs. Yes, there should just be one. Google your year truck and you should get lots of hits on what colors they are. This way, if you do this and get a working Driver side but not working passenger site you have your answer. Again, dont know how easy that is. There has to be a break where the HU's harness ties to the Factory harness, just a question of how hard it will be to put back together.
