"service Traction Control" And "service Stability Trac&

ever after I did the tires alignment to my 6" BDS lifted 2010 GMC Sierra 1500, the "Service Traction Control" and "Service Stability Trac"

come one after driving the car for more than 15 min.

yes it is related to time not milage!

 

when I restart the Truck it will immediately illuminate. However, when I turn the engine off for 30 min or so and start it again, the "Service Traction Control" and "Service Stability Trac" will be illuminated 15 min later.

 

my question is how can performing alignment cause this issue... knowing that I have been driving my truck for more than 3 weeks unaligned and faced no issues at all !

Wheel alignment can, as well as the heavily modified suspension system that you now have installed in the vehicle. If you have a few hours, I could describe the basics of a stability system to you but I'd be willing to bet that you'd be falling asleep after the first few minutes of that discussion. Just know that with the modifications that you have now done to the truck will most likely forever cause a stability/traction light to come on as well as the possibility of that system coming active, when you don't need/want it to come active. Oh and no, there isn't a way to disable it other than pressing and holding the traction/stability disable button on the dash for 5 seconds after every ignition key cycle.

my truck have been lifted for 3 weeks and I have been using it a lot and everything was perfect; the traction control and stability trac was kicking only if necessary, until I did the alignment. my concern is that there was a sensor or something like that which might had been damaged accidentally during the alignment?

Because I'm not satisfied with the current solution, I'm still looking for a solution :eek::D

 

A guy at a tire center ( no mechanical experience ) suggested to cut about 1 cm from the "Rod". he said that its in the maximum position and cutting 1 cm from each side will be better if not perfect for the alignment. See (1) the following pic:

obviously the cut will be from the outer side (2)

 

what do you think? :D is there a shorter replacement of this thing?

 

BTW: what do you call this "Rod" in english ?

Your steering wheel position sensor is now off a bit, most likely, and is tripping the stability system. Is your steering wheel now off center?

 

I've never heard of, nor would I ever tell a customer, to cut their tie rod ends down for anything other than a one off custom/off road application. It's not necessary here in this application, period.

The reason behind his suggestion is the rod indicated in the previous pic is on its maximum position and he needs to move it beyond that point. Now the tires are shaped as \ /.

 

I think this will wear my tire unevenly, reducing the life of the tires.

Something in the suspension is incorrectly installed or your wheel alignment tech is not capable of setting front toe correctly. The steering wheel off, and wheel alignment off, will cause this stability system issue.

At the dealership I work at we just intalled a Skyjacker 6or7" lift on a 2011 1500, and the service traction control and stability control messages also come on when you start the truck. We narrowed it down to a front ABS wheel speed sensor that was damaged during instal. Even though the lift came with new brackets and extensions, it really streches out a lot of things. There is nothing like watching somone cut a section out of a fram, or also watching him cut an inch out of both the inner and outter tie rod ends on both sides on a bran-new truck.

I just got a reply from BDS :

Thank you for choosing BDS Suspension systems. The inner and outer tie-rod ends need to be trimmed by 7/16" to properly align the vehicle after the lift has been installed. The camber should be set positive by .30 degrees to .50 degrees depending on the width of tire you are running. The stabilitrac system does require the steering wheel to be straight in order for the system to function properly, and the sensors would need to be reset after the alignment is completed. Please let me know if you need anything else.

 

What do you guys think?

 

Currently the steering wheel is waaaay of and its really annoying and I'm not planning to replace the tires every now and then due to uneven wear !

The tires might wear ok with the wheel crooked but the stability control, and traction control is trying to figure out why the steering wheel is always turned. Be glad the lights come on. This disables the systems. It could be trying to keep you from running of the road when your not.

Grinding on tie rod end couldn't that make it weaker? I don't like that at all and I thought bds was the best lol

HI!

 

I had my INNER tie rod cut ( about a 1.2 cm ) and did the alignment.

The all the lights now are off. I have even tried to put the rods under tremendous pressure just to make sure its ok and it hold just fine. Tried it off road and everything is ok. Now my truck accelerates better and the steering is more responsive. Wobbling disappeared. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

make sure to cut 1.2 cm ( not 1.2 inchs ! )

    • I like the idea.  I would pick diesel if I had a choice. I need pictures though.
    • I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay
    • Black bumper and the later years Z-71 style color matched grille.
    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode. 
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
