Top Speed Removal

only way to change the top speed is to tune it...

Handheld or custom tune.

FYI I am pretty sure the stock driveshaft is only rated up to 100. And you would want to make sure your tires are rated for over 100 as well.

I am sure everything is rated for more than 100 miles, except brakes...

u misunderstood....100MPH....meaning if you go over 100 mph and your driveshaft explodes you are SOL

I know this from experience with a friend of mine....He had his truck on a dyno at 130 mph and his driveshaft exploded....his stock aluminum driveshaft was only rated to 100 mph

Where do u wanna go more than 100?? On a track?? Don´t get me wrong but I don´t get it why people wanna use a truck for speeds that it´s not made for... :P

I agree also and dont get it as there is no need to drive a truck at those speeds.

It's not that you have to... it's knowing you can.... All my trucks were set to 120mph...

The only way to do it is with a programmer or custom tune. I'm sure you could get Blackbear to do just that for you for a reasonable price :P

who care how fast he wants to go, if he wants to go over 100 he can.

i wanted to remove the limiter on my 2001, and after researching, as others have said, the only way is by a tune. i got a superchips handheld tuner and im not sure what it raised my top speed to but i have hit about 125.

Even tho it was allready mentioned.. let me go into the speed rating a little more..

Not knowing exactly what tires you have of your truck or size rims i cant give you exact specs, but guessing they are 20's,

According to tireracks website the OE tire is the bridgestone or the goodyear and both are rated at 112 mph. (S rating)

Now granted we all stretch limits past there limits on everything, BUT when it comes to tires you have to think of the consequences a little bit more.. If you blow a driveshaft because of speed, it means your stranded on the side of the road.. If you blow a tire at 113 mph in a fullsize truck, there a good chance you will loose control and possibly flipping over killing yourself or some other innocent person..

If you insist on going this fast take the proper steps to equip your truck.. Z rated tires would be the first thing to look into. Next of course would be a racetrack so you are not terrorizing our highways

Edit... And as you mentioned the brakes... Its good to see you are aware that the factory brakes are no where near capable of slowing down a fullsize truck easily and safely from those speeds.. :P

on the whole driveshaft thing... in the typical vehicle nowadays when a car is in overdrive the driveshaft is spinning about 18% more rpm's than the engine. So @ 3000 rpm the driveshaft is turning about 3500rpm's. Id be way more worried about tires than the driveshaft

265/65-18 tires turn 663 revolutions per mile

100 mph = 66300 revolutions per hour or 1105 rpm's

1105rpm x 3.42 = 3779 drive shaft rpm's

the drive shaft will spin 4121 rpm's at 100mph if you have 3.73 gears.

I broken driveshaft could result in the rear of the vehicle pole vaulting into the air in just the right scenario.

As far as the safety issue, I would hate to think a loved one could be lost due to some numb nutz seeking thrills on a public road. To each their own. But many accident victims are just that, victims of someone elses misjudgements.

mythbusters busted the pole vault issue lol

If you say so....

I have witnessed dirt track cars do it. If the drve shaft breaks near the transmission and finds something to grip on the ground like a pothole, it most certainly can upset the rear of the vehicle. In the case of the dirt track car it planted the end of the drive shaft into the dirt and lifted the rear of the car until the u-joint snapped. They had to pull the shaft out of the dirt with a wrecker. Most racing applications have a driveshaft hoop to catch the driveshaft in such an event. But alot of the local dirt track boys just rig stuff up.

Myth busters test that theory of the drive shaft braking and they couldn't get the drive shaft to catch no mater how hard they tried  I believe on a dirt track that would be a different case, but I don't believe anyone is racing their trucks above 100mph on the dirt track
