Those look pretty dang awesome. Ide like to see what they look like in person.

I have been considering them for a while. Havent seen them on someones truck yet though.

My main concern is that the step looks like it would hold dirt and sand. I don't want to have any issues of rust/rot later down the road from dirt sitting in there.

I didn't get them, i actually bought the n-fabs but didn't like the fit so i got the iron cross plus steps. There easy to set up but the inside has surface rust and after going through any kind of water the rusty water comes out and make it look like there all rusted up. Other than that there sturdy as hell and i like the looks of them.

I also have been looking at these. I didn't want the standard. I like the sharp lines and box like shape. I think it matches the truck the best

GMC 10 .... not quite following you on the rust coming thru / out...???

is the rust coming from the brackets? or the inside of the step/tube?

How was the installation?

and.... would'a buy 'em again..??

The rust is on the inside of the tubes where there not painted. Installation was easy, i mean the n-fab is pre-assembed with the bracket. This is a 4 piece set but still easy to do. I like that you can change the hoop out or the bar out if they get damaged, where the n-fab you gotta buy a whole bracket. I would buy them again, there customer service is great. When i got them the passenger side had 3 dents in the main tube. I called them up and they sent me a new one no questions asked.

I don't run these but do run the iron cross 3" bars. The quality, sturdiness, and being made in the US is great. I took a try with my first set on the 1500 and now on the 2500. I highly recommend any iron cross items.

GMC 10 ,

For the installation, do you have to drill thru the pinch weld on the bottom of the rocker panel to “mount/attach” the mounting bracket?

I’m in New York, where they like to use a lot of road salt in the winter and I’m really hesitant about drilling holes and exposing bare metal in the bottom edges of my truck.

Bringing this topic back to the top… :(

The intent of this post is for guys inquiring and searching the web for info on Iron Cross nerf bars / tube steps.

I'm not a person to post negative feedback, bash a company, or leave bad comments about a company, but the situation with ordering Iron Cross Tube "plus" steps was just too much to let it go.

Got my truck in late March. :)

Started to read many different topics on here, searched other sites, the web, various other truck forums… and after reading many different comments/replies about Iron Cross, ( Mostly good/positive, but some negative,,, typical.)

I decided to order the Iron Cross Stainless Steel Tube "plus" steps.

(Stainless steel nerf bar with a added drop down step) .

Ordered the Step Plus' thru Auto Accessories garage…. Google searched it, they had a 10% off for first time customers, regular $599 – 10% - $540 with shipping, best deal I could find on the web.

Placed the order around the beginning of May, about 6 weeks later, like , mid June, box shows up on the front porch… actually three boxes : the nerf bars, the drop down steps and the brackets kit.

I open the box with the nerf bars…. Label on the outside shows "Silverado/GMC" inside the box the tubes are black powder coated , ( not Stainless) and on the instructions "Tube step to fit '99-"11 Dodge"

I was like, you gotta be kidding me. :(

So I call AutoAccessories Garage, explain to her the issue, about a week later, the Stainless steel nerf bars show up, and UPS will pick up the Dodge tubes. (which they never did, I had to take them to UPS)

So now I got all three components, the brackets, the drop steps, and the S/St nerf tubes.

To start, the painted steel mounting brackets, ( 8 ) pcs, all in one box, were all chipped up from no packing material. Before installing them,I had to prime and re-paint them. Got a can of that spray on-bed liner stuff, painted them with that. :(

The stainless steel tubes / nerf bars themselves were all right, …. A few of the welds were not the cleanest and weld splatter was around, but….. overall fairly decent, the visible side was ok.

The main part of this gripe, is the Mounting system…!! :(

The brackets get mounted on the underside body of the truck, then they took two Uni-strut channels, welded them back to side, and these are what hold the nerf bars on, they just seemed real weak.

The welds on the Uni-struts were terrible, the ends of the Uni-struts had heavy burrs on them, just like they came off the chop saw. The one section wasn't welded together right.

Looking at these Uni-struts, thinking they weren't gonna last more then 3 of our Buffalo NY winters with all the road salt they use around here, I could just see 'em rusting to nothing.

I cleaned off all ends / burrs, re-painted everything… brackets, hardware, nuts, Uni-struts, give everything a couple days, and go to mount them.

So I mount the driver's side, Just snug, and the bottom drop down step is only 7 -8 " off the ground. Not at all what I expected.

After looking at the driver's side for about 15 minutes, I took everything off, and re-boxed it all.

I E-mailed Iron Cross asking if they offered a different drop step, a more horizontal one , no reply. :(

So they went back. $92 to ship everything and a 15 % "re-stocking fee" of like $74 . plus a can of primer and bed liner paint… so like $200 overall. What a pain in the wallet. :(

So for Iron Cross, take your chances.

I didn't care for the build quality or the support structure.

I had a similar experience with GoRhino dominator III's. They are still in my garage on display. Brackets don't fit truck ( first and second set). Horrible customer support. They wont respond unless you get them on phone. In the process of re-welding one of these garbage brackets to fit only because I don't want to lose out on restock and shipping.
