Changing Spark Plugs And Wires

So I have a few questions about changing my spark plug and wires in my 2005 Z71 Silverado.

1. I am struggling trying to get the boot off of the spark plug. There is a metal covering with a spring on it, am I supposed to be pulling on that or the rubber part ( I know not to pull on the wire)? I've looked it up in the Haynes repair manual but it doesn't really say.

2. So I started working on it yesterday and I replaced 2 of them, but a storm came and I had to clean up (no garage  ) so my question is does it damage the engine if 2 are new and the rest are not? I'm doing this as a tune up/ preventive maintenance type thing so I was going to try and complete the job over the next couple of days.

Thanks

that metal covering is just a heat shield. try squeezing and twisting the rubber part to break it loose.

it doesn't hurt the engine to replace just a couple. but really the wires don't need to be replaced unless they're becoming brittle or are cracking. changing the plugs however is necessary every 100k miles since they are iridium.
