Mastertech Warranty

Just wanted to get your take on the MasterTech Extended Warranty. Trying to get a warranty on a 2007 Denali with ~78k miles on it. I was quoted $2,800-$3,200 for 36 months/36k miles with a $50 deduct ("secure" plan). Was told that it's the only one available...it's beyond the GMPP mileage threshold.

What are your experiences with MasterTech?

I don't know much about warranties as I fix my own, but that sounds like an unbelievable ripoff.

 

Even as failure-prone as these newer OBD-II equipped vehicles are, I couldn't justify spending that kind of money. Anything that expensive in one shot would be part of the powertrain ... which your already covered by the factory for 7 years / 100K.

 

If it were me I'd take that cash & buy a nice ATV to play on.

The main thing to remember about extended warranties is that the folks selling the warranties always turn a profit.

The powertrain warranty for this car lapses in November of this year; I was under the impression it was a 5 yr/100k Powertrain Warranty.

 

As far as the profit on warranties, it's pretty much the highest margin item sold in any dealership. So I'll definitely have some negotiating room. I was more curious to know if anyone here has used a MasterTech and has had good or bad luck. I've always purchased a GMPP warranty (usually $1,800 or so) and have never had issues using those.
