Security, Locking Break Ins, Gmt-900

Over the past year I have had my truck broken into few times, no broken glass or signs of damage, just raid whatever I have siting in the console. I relock my truck many times every night to ensure that it is locked wife reminds me all the time. I can't believe I am leaving it unlocked. Other people in the neighborhood say the same thing, that they swear they had locked their vehicle but are having the vehicle cleaned out by these thieves.

Is there a device out there that will open locked doors, master key or master remote? How secure are our trucks? Is there an aftermarket add on that would help?

I don't see an option to auto lock the doors after it has been parked for x minutes.

Anyone else seeing these type of break ins?

Wow, I always hit the lock on the way out, its just habit, I have manual locks so i have to rememeber, anyways thieves can punch the locks still they did on my truck, never took anything, they musta got scared.

The older models (GMT-800) did not have plates from the factory behind the rear door handles on the crew cabs. Jimmi Jammer makes plates to go behind the door handles on the GMT-800 and GMT-900 trucks. Get some installed as they provide additional strength behind the locks so they can't be pushed in.

Weird, my 06 has factory alarm system and it works, no impact sensors though, but if the window is broken into and the door is opened with the system activated, the alarm goes off and disables the truck from being stolen also.

Check you tube for how to steal a chevy truck. You'll see not only can someone who knows what they're doing get into your truck in about 15 seconds, but they can steal it in about 45 seconds.

Same with Ford, Dodge and many other brands.

Yesterday had a contractor lock his keys in his truck. Wedged a drew driver between the top of the door and the door frame and used a coat hanger to hit the electric unlock. Hitting the unlock defeats the theft system since the truck thinks your inside. 30 secs tools in hand to open door.

I was fowarded an email saying that professional thieves are now watching for you at stores, malls etc. They steal your signal as you lock your doors with your key fob from about 30-50 feet away. They could easily follow you home or to work and use it to unlock the doors. I'm sure someone here can explain in further detail.

Is there a way to change the code in the current FOB, or do you have to buy a new fob and erase the current ones

from the truck?

It use to be possible to do this with garage door openers before they put the rolling code systems in them. So I would guess it would be possible to do the same with a signal from a vehicle.

The current GM factory alarm has a HUGE flaw that makes it useless. Any thief with a truck or two under his belt knows how to deactivate it & open the door in just a few seconds. No one cares about code grabbing as it is much easier to just open he door while deactivating the factory alarm at the same time. You know when a kid with no exp broke into your truck because their is broken glass involved.

OK, so tell us then, the the truck is locked and armed, how do you:

1) open the door,

2) deactivate the alarm?

So are you saying that the alarm in our trucks is useless? Are there any add-on or aftermarket modules which will improve the security?

I really hate to put aftermarket alarm in my 1 year old truck, but if that's what it take I will do it.

Is there a way to set the truck to auto lock after the keys are out of the ignition and all doors have closed?

Has anyone hooked up a flashing LED for when the alarm, set? This is common on aftermarket alarms, there is no indicator on our trucks. Sometimes a simple deterrent is the best way to make the thieves move on to a simpler target.

What year truck is this? I have done many test on the factory anti theft system and I havent been able to get it to fail yet unles I was to disconnect the battery and move the lock/unlock button myself, but when I press my lock button twice, horn sounds, I know that the anti theft light on the dash illuminates, now I have sat in my truck and activated the alarm, I press the electric unlock button and the system actually prevented the locks from unlocking at all, I kept cycling through to see if they would unlock and they dont, I also rolled the window down and was outside my truck trying the same test and got the same results the doors would not unlock thus NOT disabling the anti theft system, whe door is manually unlocked then door opened, the horn blares and anti theft kicks in, so maybe your buddies truck is old or defective theft system........

The truck I opened was like a '03 or '04? Regardless I got in it. I still wouldn't put a lot for faith in factory alarms. I understand a breadknife through the door hinge will disable the sensors in the door when you cut the wire on aftermarket alarms?

Best way to make sure your truck is not chosen is to install an aftermarket alarm. Most thieves won't bother with a vehicle with an alarm. They will simply move onto an easier target. I have the Viper 5901 two way alarm system. It has great range, and the remote has an icon that tells you if the truck is locked or unlocked. The remote will also notify you when the trucks alarm has been activated. Best alarm I have ever seen. You can purchase it online for about $200, and have it installed by an alarm shop. Very simple install.

If you hit the lock button on your door once and hear 3 chimes afterwards the truck will lock and alarm will arm 5 seconds after the last door is closed
