The one from the dealer will use your key. It has a special lock cylinder that will key itself to match your ignition key. Very slick.

I went to my dealer today and bought the kit (part # 17802393) and installed it when I got home. Super easy install - took about 15 minutes. Did it myself. I even torqued the bolts to the correct spec in the instructions. I cut the crap out of my knuckles getting the non locking bezel off but that was my fault. Be sure the lock cylinder fits into the open rectangular piece on the handle mechanism. The instructions were a bit vague on that. Make sure the rectangle is pushed DOWN and it will slip in there easily. The self keying lock is just the coolest thing ever. I paid $49 plus tax at my dealer. A bit pricey compared to what everybody else is saying but I would rather spend a dime or two locally to help out my neighbors. If you have questions, let me know.

That is awesome! I would definitely like to get one, however, that part number looks like it is for the newer body style than I have. I'll have to do some digging to find mine.

Sorry about that, I should have specified what truck I have. 2011 GMC Sierra 1500. The part number I quoted will NOT fit your truck.

Do they use your existing key? The factory one does. That has to be the slickest setup ever, how they use your existing key. Someone will make a killing on the patent for that idea.

NBS tailgate lock is a great option but a bad salt trap. Keep it flushed & lubed. Normally have to clean this several times over the Winter months. Will know there is a salt/lube problem when the key goes in and only turns @ 30 degrees. If you don't have anything handy to flush the lock, the tailgate mechanism can be released from under the handle using a screwdriver to assist the lock levers. Even with this issue, still well worth the money.

I just got a 2011 Silverado 2 days ago and installed the lock and bezel last night in 10 minutes. follow directions there are only 3 screws. Remove bottom one first. The part is $47 @ dealership. Which cover did you buy?
