Looking For A Recommendation

Hey everyone,

New to these boards, Hello to all fellow GM truck owners out there.

Im looking for a cat back system for my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado with a 5.3l. I dont really want anything too loud or to drone while highway cruising, but would like a nice sound for when you just have to step on it. From searching YouTube, I have found flowmaster to be loud, regardless of series; gibson seems to have the sound Im looking for.

Does anyone have a Gibson exhaust that can verify this? Or any other recommendations to look for?

Yep,another vote for CORSA :sigh: I've had three of their systems on trucks ('99-'04-and my current '07) plus I have one on my '11 Camaro SS (along with Kook's headers and hi-flow cats)

Stay away from Gibson  I had their systems on my '97,and at first on my '99,no sound what so ever, and the header pipes started rusting almost immediately, even though they were the stainless systems.

Oh,one other thing.....CORSA systems are not cheap, expect to pay at least around a grand to $1200.00,depending on if you want the sport or touring system, and if you want a dual-rear or a single-side exit system.

I recommend the sport system, the touring system is kinda' quiet.

Just find a shop to put a Magnaflow in to replace your stock muffler unless you want the dual exhaust look. Spent 90 for sound. No matter what they say, you arent going to gain 20HP like some shops will claim.

Corsa Sport exhaust is what you want. This is my 4th Corsa on a 5.3 engine and they sound great! I got mine from autoanything.com shipped for under $800. This was is December 2010.

I would recommend Magnaflow if your going cat back. You can pick where you want the pipe to exit (stock, dual straight out, in front of RH rear wheel, etc) and for my 2010 the system was $750 ish sitting in my bay at work. It is a nice tone when you put your foot into it but at cruising speeds you can't even tell you changed the exhaust

If cost is a concern, buy the dB exhaust. Sane exact muffler as the Corsa sport, but a lower grade stainless in the pipes and different clamps. About half the price.

I have been considering the same for my 2011 truck. Seems to be alot of different opinions out there - lately I have been hearing that no system actually provides HP gain and actually a couple of them reduce HP. Anybody heard the same??

Some say the duals reduce low end and move it to the top end of the power band. I feel no change with the dB/Corsa exhaust. The days of exhaust systems allowing for a gain in power are mostly gone. Factory systems flow very well and just happen to be quiet. I got the dB for the sound and nothing else.

Wow, thanks for the great response guys!

Ill definitely look into the corsa systems. I live in Toronto, Ontario.... any recommendations for a decent shop?

Do anything of these systems have a negative effect/sound with the AFM trucks? I would like a better sound on my 2011, but I dont want a drone when it switches modes.

Sould also look into Dynomax, they sound good when you get on it but while holding a constant speed you can hardly tell they are there. They are also about half the price of everything else (~$400ish).
