Plug Wires

I sold my '98 K1500 with 198,000 miles on it, with the original plug wires still installed. Not one misfire, not one missed beat on a cold start, nothing. The factory wires are the best there is for a "stock" application and until they start breaking down and misfiring, etc, I leave them alone.

 

I only run the larger aftermarket wires on higher voltage aftermarket ignition systems where you are needing a good strong spark to ignite the mixture in a cylinder with high pressures. Anything less than that, and they are a waste, imo. I'd like to see some dyno numbers that prove otherwise, myself.

eventhough the aftermarket ones have less resistance, the power or MPG difference will be almost negligible. the wires are only 9 inches long... if it were an older motor where the wires plug into a single distributor and the wires are all over a foot long, then there MIGHT be a difference. if you do see any difference, your original wires & plugs would have had to be in really rough shape.

 

the only reason i see this is worth anything is the price difference. just monitor them regularly to make sure the rubber insulation will last as long as the OE ones do! the first sign of cracks, replace them, and if they show signs within the first 50k-75k miles, i would go back to the Delco's

Granatelli claims 0 ohms through their wires, which of course is false advertisement because there is no such thing as a super conductor with zero resistance. there wires actually show about 0.08-0.1 ohms on a digital meter. but again this isn't going to show any noticable HP or MPG difference for our particular application.

 

i called them out on several camaro forums, and they finally caved and adjusted the display on their meter to show a more accurate number!

Will I see any difference at all by switching to msd ignition 8.5mm wires compared to the stock wires.
