Tpms Rebuild Kits

While researching a set of new tires at Discount Tire, they also recommend a TPMS Rebuild Kit for each wheel...at about $8 each. I've never heard of doing this each time tires are replaced. Has anyone ever dealt with this before?

BTW... I'm leaning towards a set of General Grabber HTS tires...are they good?

Hey Florence - I'm in Casa Grande. Yep, I took off my 17" wheels with Grabber HTS tires and sold them - had less than 600 miles on 'em. I now have 18" with Michelins. Discount rebuilt my TPMS when I made the change. It's recommended with each tire change no matter what the mileage.

 

My first experience with Generals was on my old truck, a 2006 Sierra. It came with General Ameritracs or as I called them, Americraps. I had a blowout at 2200 miles and an unexplained flat at 10K miles. I pulled them all off and replaced them with Goodyears. I called and emailed General, but never heard a thing from them. I vowed never ever to have General tires on any vehicle I ever owned again. I mean to keep that promise.

 

Now, with the Grabber HTS, I've read good things about them. But, with my predisposition, that's why I got rid of them. As far as I'm concerned General Tire can go to heck. If they gave me free tires dipped with gold and paid me to use them, I wouldn't. They ignored me once, they won't get that chance again.

The TPMS sensors are battery powered. About 5 year life. The reason for the rebuild is too ensure the batterys

 

are current and will power the transmitter at each tire.

Sounds to me that there ripping you off, a TPMS rebuild kit for an 09 ummm yeah ok.

The rebuild kit is only a new valve stem, washer, nut, sensor attachment screw and valve core. You cannot change the batteries, if they go the whole sensor needs to be replaced. It is recommended procedure to replace the valve stem if rubber, or the seals and washer if metal along with the valve core EVERY time you break the bead on the rim.
