Body Side Molding Problem

I decided to remove the side molding on my truck today and ran into a bit of a problem. I got the molding off and had alot of adhesive and what appears to be dirt. After wearing my fingers raw getting all the extra adhesive off, I washed the area and then used a Clay bar. I clay barred the hell out of that thing. Still have the "dirt" of there. It is smooth as can be but something is defiantly wrong. Im not an auto body expert so i have no idea what it is or how to fix it. Any ideas of what it is and how to fix it?

 

This is one of the worst spots. The rest is mostly along where the edge of the molding was.

You say it's smooth. Is it even with the paint or does it sit higher than the paint, can't really tell from your photo.

since i clay barred the area it is smooth like it is supposed to be after you clay bar. It is higher than the paint but by the smallest margin.

Do you have a buffer? If not, I would try some polishing compound and a waxing pad, should take it right off.

Could it still be some adhesive left on the paint? Try using some goo-gone to see if it comes off. Kind of hard to tell by the pic.

Hope you got this problem figured out. Just curious as to what type of trim molding you had. Im looking to put some new trim on mine. If you still have it and its the type im looking for i may be interested in buying it if you are selling it.

It was basically a 2 inch wide strip with a Chrome sticker over it. the main reason I took it off is because the sticker is getting really bubbley. so the trim is in the trash. haven't had time to try anything yet
