Crank Re-learn Needed ? What Is It ?

Hi All,

 

I changed out a faulty Crank Sensor and the engine fired right up and idled a little rough..but then after driving ~10 miles in stop/go traffic it settled down and is running better....question is...what exactly does the dealer do on a crank sensor re-learn...is this a computer thing or do they just drive it around doing stop and go ??

It's a computer thing.....

it's a computer thing, the Tech helps the PCM learn the Crank Shaft Sensor positions.. takes all of about 10 minutes, but dealers bill in hourly increments with a 1 hour minimum.

has not thrown any codes since the new sensor install...not even the dreaded P1336

 

 

EDIT:

 

Is a crank re-learn needed after crank sensor replacement if it doesn't throw a P1336 code ???

No SES light no crank learn needed.
