2006 Silverado Hub/bearing

just realised, my front left wheel bearing is gone.

 

truck is a 2006 silverado 1500 Z71 4x4 5.3L with ABS

it seems to be a hub+bearing+abs sensor assy. a very nice stupid-proof package. very user friendly but not buyer frindly. in canada its about 350-400$ for a timken. . . .not even an original part at that price.

 

big deal here is because i am doing more off-rroad than paved road. i have those heavy 10 ply mud tires,going trough loots of water and mud, gravel roads, some quad trails once in a while. its hard on the mechanic, whenever something break i want to upgrade.

 

is there a more heavy duty part that will fit there ? ? i'm thinking about real heavy duty, dont care about the price if its sure not to break again.

 

or maybe theres a way to replace the bearings only, i am almost sure that they have the cups machined in the hub and i doubt but. . . .worth asking. . . .could be lucky.

My 2006 Silverado has needed two front hub/bearing assemblies within 122K miles. I bought it certified used with 50K miles on the odometer from a Chevy dealer. Fortunately, the first one (right side) was found during the 12K mile warrenty. The left side needed replaced at 122K miles after I noticed tire wear. All highway miles. Both jobs cost over $400, but I only had to pay for the second one. Never had this problem with earlier model Chevy trucks, but they probably had the old bearing/race wheel hubs that were easily servicable.

i just changed the left side, right side is gone as well and i have a t-case coming soon.

this week-end i have to disassemble all the suspension bushing and grease everything+make modification to have grease fitting everywhere sso i'll be capable to grease it.

 

they are really not made to go anywhere else than on the road. proof id made now but its too late, i bought a chevy and i cant afford another one. now i have to made that truck bullet proof so it can last at least more thhan a month before the next breakdown.
