Disable Electric Door Lock Buttons

My little dog likes to dance around on my door switches when I leave him in the 2009 Sierra. I can handle my mirrors going in and out, but when I'm pumping gas and hear that click/honk, and see him grinning at me through the window, I'm not too happy. And On-Star doesn't work under a station canopy. He also can unlock the truck the same way, so I never know what is going to be left when I return :fume: I would like to be able to put a switch somewhere on/under the dash that I could use to turn off the switches on the door, without deactivating my remote entry or throwing error codes. Any ideas? I know I'm not the only one with this problem - or am I? Oh Yeah. I could pull the keys every time I gas up, but sometimes I forget. That doesn't help when he unlocks it, anyway.

the power lock switch is disabled if you lock the doors with the key fob remote, might just get into the habit of taking the keys with you and locking the doors with the fob.

at that point only the fob will unlock the doors without the alarm going off. Key or pulling up on the manual lock will set off the alarm, and the power switch is completely disabled.

You could also just leave the window down enough to reach in and unlock the truck. I do this regularly as I have been locked out in my own driveway by the dog as well.

You're are so right. It was another vehicle where he unlocked the door. Still, if I don't always grab my keys, he can and does lock me out. I try to remember to take the keys when I gas up (the only time I wouldn't remove them), but I'm gettin' old and dumb(er).

lol, no worries.. I used to do the same (leave the keys in at the pump) but no longer, too many wackos in this area.. awhile back I was pumping, and went in to get a bottle of water and came out to see someone grabed my nozzle and was filling their car on my dime..

Thanks for the understanding. I'd never leave the pump with the keys in the ignition, even in good ol' mid Michigan - surely not in SoCal.....HA I guess I'll probably learn to live with it, and keep a key in my wallet. Nice forum here. Think I'll stick around!

So nice to know I'm not the only one :fume: I do try to leave the window down a bit, except when it's 15 below. I suppose if I had a switch or something, I'd forget it as much as I'd forget to take my keys or leave a window down.

What kind of gas station are you getting gas at? I can make OnStar work in a concrete parking garage. It's the same exact thing as a cell phone so you should have no issue getting service.

I checked it again, and it does work. It must have been having a bad day the one time I tried it a couple years ago. Actually, it works better than my cell phone service :(

He was the last one using the pump, it is his dime now, unless you prepaid. If you did not prepay, drive off. Let him expain the gas and go.

XM cuts off under the canopy. Why dont you put a locking gas cap. Force yourself to take the keys -- problem solved.

XM uses satellites. OnStar uses cell towers for vehicle communication which will work just fine in most covered areas. Hell, in some of the Boston tunnels I think they have cell repeaters down there.
