Which tires to buy?

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at getting some 285s for my truck and would like to hear opinions on the tires I am considering.  I am looking at the Nittos, the BFG ATs, and Goodyear MTR.  Some questions I have are:

How well do they work in the snow?

Does any of them negatively affect gas mileage noticably?

Is road noise greatly increased from stock Firestones?

And any other insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Was apprehensive about going with a Bridgestone, but my Dueler AT Revos so far have been great in the rain and general conditions.  We should get snow anytime here in Cleveland, so I'll update my review once that happens.  A nice aggressive tread, but not too bad and quiet too.

I've got the Nittos and LOVE THEM!!!  Best tire I have ever had in my opinion.  They have better wet and dry traction than my BFG AT's, great off-road traction in my limited experience, quieter on the highway than my BFG AT's, and have a smoother ride.  I live in Houston so I don't have any experience in the snow and probably won't unless I take the truck to the mountains.  I have had them for about 5,000 miles so far, haven't had any problems, love them as much today as when I first got them, and would recommend them to anybody looking for some replacement tires.

There are several others on this forum that have installed Nittos as well.  Everyone has had the same great things to say about them.  Follow the link in my signature to pictures of my truck before and after the new meats.

Just my 2 cents...OK, maybe 3 cents.

I am 2wd and I stay on the paved roads...I like the Wrangler ST's that came on my truck.  So much in fact that I intend to replace my stock ones with a new set of the same ones.   FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE that I have EVER kept the same tires on my truck that the manufacturer put on it.  (And I have been through quite a few trucks!).

Several of my friends have the same truck....I may just start collecting spares and pick up a whole set that way!

I mean face it...who ever puts that spare on the ground and leaves it there?  I figure that if I look around I can find a few folks who have the ST as a spare and don't really care if their spare is new or has 30K miles on it!
