Nerf Bar Options

Im looking at buying some nerf bars, im between a couple sets and wondered if anyone has had experience with them. The first one is the Raptor http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/Runni...agnum-Step-Bars

The next is the Iron cross http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/Runni...Cross-Nerf-Bars

And finally the crowd favorite the N-fab I don't think this needs a link lol. My only reason for not jumping on this one is the price. So if anyone could give me a pointer or two that would be great. Maybe even throw another brand out there to me. Thanks for your help.

I've got the 5" SS oval Raptors on my truck. I liked the looks of the OEM bars, but didn't like the price. I think I paid $300 for the Raptors. I like the fact that, unlike most bars, the end caps are welded on, instead of being pressed in plastic pieces. They also mount using the body mount bolts, instead of bolting to the inside of the rocker panels. I've read a bunch of posts/reviews of the bars that mount to the rocker panels like the OEM bars, and most have stated how sturdy they actually are, but it seems to me that they would be a little flimsy. I can tell you for a fact that the Raptors are mounted rock solid. One thing to look out for when mounting the bars to the body mounts though, is that sometimes the weld on the nut that the bolts mount to will break, and you won't be able to get the body mount bolt out. The fix for this is to cut a hole in the floor of the truck and access the nut through the hole. I didn't have this problem, but there are others who have.

i like the iron cross design in black (i like the curve at the ends compared to a straight bar)... anyone know how they mount?

all i know is i had westin bars on my previous truck and they rusted to hell. i won't pick them again. does anyone know how long either of these brands will last? i see the iron cross only offers a 5 year warranty, the black bars are powder coated...

If you are going with them, why not look at Westin. They are pretty cheap from what I remember.

If you want to save money, and have the equipment, you can always fab your own. Thats what Im doing. Im gonna combine a few design features from N-fab, Go Rhino, and RBP.

RBP makes a really nice looking step bar, but you will pay out the nose, and out the rear for them.

How are the oem steps holding up? I would like to get them in black maybe, how would the black hold up?

I have the 6" OEM steps in chrome with the black pad and they have held up well, but I'm not hard on my stuff either. Check out this website as they have great prices on nerf bars and I have previous experience with them. http://stainlessnerfbars.com/

You may want to check out Summit Racing branded step bars. I have a set in black and I'm pretty happy with them. They are stainless steel with black powdercoating and seem pretty strong. They have their steps in black, polished stainless steel, and chrome. I went with them because their prices are pretty good and most of their store branded stuff is made by name brand companies. Earlier this year I bought a new tailgate cap that was a Summit Racing brand and when they brought it out to me, it was a Westin box.

I'd either spend $200 twice on black power coated bars that will rust in 3-5 years each set, or get something higher quality for $400-500 once.
